Just looked at the famous phot of the Wild Bunch and everyone was wearing a bowler. The photo was taken in 1901. How popular was the bowler at the turn of the century? Or was it just a photograph hat? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/54/Wildbunchlarge.jpg

I've got 5 bowlers and get positive comments, especially from young people, whenever I wear them. 3 Christies, 2 fur felt and one wool and 2 Smithbilts, one fur and one wool. I'm going to ask MajorMoore if he'll make me a beaver bowler. I'm striving mightily to find one without that tightly curled brim.

It's not a hat I can ever see myself being comfortable with. A cheap wool one might eventually make its way into my costume wardrobe, but it isn't something I could really see myself wearing "for real." For regular suit wear, I much prefer the aesthetic of a Fedora; for dressier wear or black tie I intended to invest in a coupel of nice homburgs. And I already have my top hats for formal dress, so there's not really a neat spot in my wardrobe for a bowler anyhow.
