Mike, it's a guesstimate, but the character of the wide sweatband, imprints, liner and old style mfg. sticker lead me to 1930s for the black Borsalino.

Yes... the Lubavitcher rebbe was a Borsalino maven. Others follow suit... and hat.

Did you notice all the hat carriers that were given out? I would imagine they were donated by Bencraft Hatters in Brooklyn.

There's just something about a homburg. They seem to go with everything - they can be worn formally or, very casually, as in this picture, with a white t-shirt, old waistcoat and jeans.
For me they're the last 'older style' hats that aren't perceived by others as 'fancy dress' hats - something that can afflict tophats and bowlers.

And I love the more curved brim on mayserwegener's Bors' above. It reminds me a bit of one of my favourite hats - Tony Hancock's:

Here's my other hommie. Unlike my Peschel the felt is so soft on this one that if I just nudge the crown the crease/dent will hold for as long as I want it to. Very flexible.

I saw those and was kind of wondering why? I mean don't Orthodox Jews wear the black hats pretty much all day every day? The pictures even show them eating dinner wearing the hats, which isn't the "Hat Etiquette" I'm aware of.

On a side note, I'm starting to wonder why I even wear a hat, I mean it's only 25 yards from the car to the door at work, I have a garage with a working opener. Yes, I take my hat off when I go in pretty much anything with a door and a roof.

The Hassidim mens heads are covered inside at functions and during service at the synagogue and yes even when eating diner. It is THEIR religious "Etiquette" which is different from Gentiles. When I went to my friends daughters wedding, and they were Hassidim, I kept my hat on all during the service and at the reception and dinner while eating. It's a whole differnt world than ours. As for the hat carriers, many of the men have a hat that they wear just for the Sabbath and probably take it with them when traveling so an item like this would be quite convenient
