The Aero Shackleton and PBS' Mr. Selfridge... Leather Waistcoat

So, the wife and I watch this show on PBS - "Mr Selfridge". The season (one) finale features the presence of a hero named Shackleton. He's wearing this familiar-looking piece of hide and it took me a few minutes to say aha! I thought it was very cool to see this character on the show wearing a very similar piece to the one below:

The only main difference I could see was the breast pocket - it was angled on the TV piece. My wife just laughed - she said I'm worse than any woman when it comes to clothes... lol

Didn't realise period dramas like this made it over the pond. Getting our own back for all the NY and LA cop stuff that floods our TV's :)

Yep, I get that too. Glad it's not just me! :)
But then mine still asks me "Do these pants go with this top?" or "Which shoes?" ....! ;-)

Good for you is what I say.

Vest: nice.
Series.....meh.
Love many of the BBC series that have made it over to the US.
Tried to get into the Mr. Selfridge series. Just can't.

WHOA!
Jeff that's not a BBC series - it's from ITV, like that other rubbish, Downton Abbey.
BBC series are usually of better quality (writing/costume/historical accuracy/production values).

If my memory serves me, Ken said he saw the Shackleton character wearing said vest, did a bit of Googling and then came up with the first version at the factory the next day. All done rather quickly, it's the one with the tartan back on: http://www.aeroleatherclothing.com/product-detail.php?id=1546
Apparently, the tricky thing with a vest or a waistcoat like this is to make it not look like a jacket that's just lacking its arms! :D

Well, like the show(s) or not, I thought the tie in to the jacket was cool. And it made me want to try one at some point.
I like the Aero connection to the past. Something new for us Yanks. :)

Yes, that certainly used to be the case.

But since the BBC kicked out their Head Of Drama - who was promptly employed by ITV, things have changed:D;)
