I've had this hat for about twenty years and it fits my head better than any other. The crown has now split open. Any possibilities? I am doubtful.

Oh boy! :eusa_doh:
That is a nice hat to have that happen to. Whatever you do, it seems you would have to attack it from the back side to make it less obvious. That would involve removing at least a secion of the liner to get to the area.
I have tried to repair a bowler myself and it did not come out as good as I would have liked. Perhaps it had to do with the super glue used---even from the back it still managed to bleed through to the front. :eusa_doh:
If I were to try it again, I would try something a little more organic like Elmers wood glue with some type of backing behind the felt to help it adhere. There are a few hatters here who could likely give you better advice than I though. My experience is from doing it once without a good result. :eusa_doh: [huh]

Wow, that's quite the tear.

About the only thing you could do it to apply a patch to the inside of the crown to help hold it closed. Since the felt is stiff, you also might be able to run a bead of glue along the inside and seal the crack. The best you can do is to minimize the appearance of the crack.
