Are any of you Australian loungers able to recommend a tailor in Sydney (preferably near Sydney Uni). I have had only two experiences with tailoring here, and both were bad. Thanks for any advice.

Tailors in Sydney

Depends on price...

Do you want Cutler at Henry Bucks? Joe Cutrone at Kings Cross or my mate that made a half decent suit for AUD3-400 (material supplied) in Kings St Newtown - Mario - the Neapolitan guy in the old green shop near Sydney Uni called "Sartoria".

How much you wanna spend?

Thanks for the reply. Here is my dilemma. I practically work across the street from Mario. I once came back from the US with a nice jacket that I bought new for next to nothing because it had a 2 cm gap on the end of the sleeve--on the seam. I could have probably done it myself. I took it to Mario, who fixed it for me, but the result was a bulky clump of thread. I decided that he must be past it. After hearing from you guys, I have to conclude that Maybe he just wasn't that interested in the job, that he is capable of good work. All I want to do is alter some sleeves and hems from old suits.

Mario Conte

Look some of my suits are better than others - Mario made me 3 suits in total.

He sometimes stuffs up the sleeve meets shoulder Dept and makes them a bit "ropy" but I had that altered and they are okay. You just need to go back and ask him to get it right. It's all about how much you wanna spend ona made to measure suit. Otherwise buy on the 'Bay or throught Style Forum etc

OK, I took my new, second hand Ebay suit by Hickey Freeman to Mario. He did a great job on the pants and lengthened the sleeves pretty well (not great, but good enough). Turned out to be a good experience at a reasonable price. Thanks for the advice.
