Hey ladies! I'm teaching my first big swing event and I figured I should look the part. This time, I want to do a '30s sailor style look...casual enough but still slightly period.

I have black sailor pants with white buttons and a scoop necked shirt that ties in a little knot/bow and the tails hang down and my white canvas dancing shoes.

Now, would you suggest fingerwaves or curls or an updo? i have short '30s/'20s style hair and I don't want to be too "out there" but, come on, swing? When else can you flaunt the look?

:D Merci bien. :)

I think curls. With a pants sailor outfit, I think you need to balance it with flirty, feminine hair. Although I like fingerwaves, if you have short hair, I think it might look too boyish with pants. With 20/30's hair, I think fingerwaves suit dresses more.

Of course, I'm sure plenty will disagree, but that's just my take on it. ;)

Curls most definitely. You can also pull the sides up leaving a bit of volume to keep it out of your face.

Lady Day, that is a real cute smock, and great for creative activities, but thebadmamajama was talking about SWING DANCING, not SEWING!

Edited to say, I'm a fan of both swing dancing and sewing, but don't generally do both at once, though I do sometimes sew things to wear dancing, and once in awhile think about sewing as I dance.
