Suspenders - Contemporary trend

Just watched the Second World War film "Sea Wolves", starring Gregory Peck, David Niven, Patrick McNee and Roger Moore. That film is several decades old.

The British military officer uniforms with the across-the-chest revolver holster strap and belts plus the metalic buttons reminds me very much of smart-looking Safari suits.

Had the opportunity to see Roger Moore wearing a black Tuxedo suit. It was difficult to spot the cummerbund, being just as black as the rest of the suit, but I suspect he was wearing low cut pants. When he was not wearing the dinner jacket, one could see that no suspenders were worn

I wonder if that, plus the contemporary sales of black/grey striped trousers without suspender buttons for Morning Dress use, confirms the use of suspenders are no longer de rigueur as part of correct dressing, except perhaps for White Tie functions.

I'm no expert, but is it possible that these trends on what is now considered correct are affected by both fashion - braces being rarely worn nowadays, mostly replaced by belts - and cost-effectiveness? I'm sure it's much cheaper / more profitable for hire companies to hire out trousers with side-tabs or belt loops than to hire out braces also. Maybe by making the braces non-essential, it means they can become an extra item chargeable separately? Or maybe most of those who still wear braces just use clip ons?
