After seeing so much awesome tweed on display here I decided to hunt some down for myself. First attempt: excellent jacket, wrong size. I'm hoping one of you wants it. I'm unsure of the vintage; couldn't find any info. on Serry's in Hanover NH.

Measurements in inches: Pit-to-pit = 21, Sleeve length = 26, Shoulders seam to seam = 18.5, Collar to hem = 33.

Please note: color shows best in first photo (taken in daylight), but it still looks lighter than it is; the others are all indoor shots and for some mysterious reason make the coat look brown. It has 3 shades of blue and a tiny hit of green when you peer at up close.

Also, the lapel covers the top button; this jacket has 3 buttons, which are a smoky blue.

No damage or problems, just high-quality tailoring and impressive details.

$48 shipped sound reasonable? If not, throw me an offer.

Nice one! I bet someone bought that when they were at Dartmouth. Probably a little bit big for me though. I've already got one or two too big tweeds.

One of you knowledgeable gents needs to educate me about these old tweed coats. I was under the impression that they had value. [huh] Apparently not. Is it the size? the vintage? the color? the style? Any guidance much appreciated.

There are a LOT of old tweed coats on eBay and Etsy. More supply than demand. The value lies in certain details: some subtle (cut, age, number of buttons, manufacturer, etc.) and some less so (shade of tweed, pattern, size, etc.)

Without prevailing upon you for further and item-specific details, let me simply thank you, and admit that I am the "He" in your signature line.

I'd be happy to, in any case. From what I've seen, eBay and Etsy buyers are most enthusiastic these days about:

-- Three-piece tweed suits; below that, two-piece. Preferably bespoke, Harris Tweed, Isle-of-Man, and/or unusual (usually colorful) tweeds: certain Donegals, herringbones, cheviots, or combinations thereof. Preferably vintage 1930s - early '60s, or at least designed in the styles of those decades.

-- Vintage tweed sportcoats from the 1930s-'50s. Single-breasted, three-button front. Again, preferably bespoke, Harris Tweed, Isle-of-Man, and/or unusual (usually colorful) tweeds: certain Donegals, herringbones, cheviots, or combinations thereof.

Oh no you're not. The "he" is an enlisted soldier in Dar'a, serving under a Turkish bey -- circa 1916.

Heh-heh, I should've said I feel like that "He."

Is there a thread already that deals with dating tweeds by labels and whatnot?

Oh, and thanks for making me look up "cheviot." I'm an incurable logophile. :)
