suits from Shanghai

I'm going to Shanghai soon and one port-of-call will be Tailor Lee, who, I have heard, is world renowned for his reproduction, made-to-order 1930's-1950's English suits.

Has anyone here visited him and had a suit made? If you have how much did it cost?

I'm preparing myself by listening to lots of 1930's 'mandopop' - September Song and Smoke Gets in Your Eyes sung in Mandarin is quite an experience!

Bespoke suits can cost up to and including the $1000 range. I've had bespoke suits made by Chan that were about $1100 each, but they were very customized. I've heard that regular customers can have suits made in the $600-$700 range. Some of these artisans prefer not to have new customers.

Wow, good luck with your trip. I'd like to suggest that you bring pictures of what you are interested in so the tailor can see the details of what you want. It tends to be helpful - as they say a picture is worth a thousand words!

Please be sure to keep us in the loop and post pictures when you get the suit. If possible take some pix while you're at the shop too!
