Suit-shirt colour combinations

I hope there's not another thread which covers this already, sorry if there is. I hope this thread can be for anyone to post suit-shirt combinations which work but are not what you'd automatically think would work.

I have two questions to start off with.

1. Which shirt colours (other than white) can be worn with blue?

2. Which colour suits can be worn with blue and white striped shirts? Most importantly, would pinstripes with a blue and white striped shirt be too many stripes?

Get thee to a bookstore...or Amazon.com!!! :D

Seriously, you need THE book that is a must for every man's bookshelf. It has all the answers and more!

There are numerous color combinations that can be worn with blue. Striped shirts with a pinstriped suit can be done but you have to be careful. This great book tells you how to pull off every look with classic style. It also covers formalwear, shoes, ties, and many other items. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Stickies for a reason

I encourage anyone to take advantage of the stickies at the top of this room. They generally contain the "best of the best" and make for great browsing.
You can glean plenty of vital information regarding material, colors, patterns, styles, trends, etc. from specific decades. Enjoy.

Another question...

Didn't want to start another thread.

Today I saw a wonderful light weight pure wool designer suit at a charity shop for £10. Mint condition and it fit me perfectly, with only some taking in of the waist needed.

The trouble was, the colour. It was grey with a very slight green hue, only slight. However I was hoping to find a grey suit which can be worn in a similar way to this one (i.e. a plain colourless combination):

Sadly I cannot post pictures of the suit as I left it in the shop (the shopkeeper put it aside for me so I can make up my mind).

Would I still be able to do this with a grey suit which has a green hue? And would a silver-grey hat clash?

I find silver-grey the very most flexible hat colour - particularly when the ribbon is also a silver grey - as it is the nearest to neutral there is in a hat. Works equally well with browns, greys, blues and black.... On that basis, I see no problem. The suit sounds good. A lot will depend on how obvious the green undertone is in natural light, but I should thing there's a lot you can wear with that. I'd be careful with blues, maybe, but not necessarily exclude them - I love a sky or lighter blue tie with brown and other earth-tones.

ETA: and fwiw, a good suit that fits you that well for a tenner..... hells, I'd jump on that even it was extremely limited in terms of what worked with it!

Just my bad luck (or my stupidity) that I left it in the end then. I checked a few days ago and it was gone. Shame because I would have liked a grey suit, whichever grey, to round out my wardrobe. Being pure wool it would have been at home with my other suits, all of which are pure wool (mostly purchased from charity shops for a fraction of their value).
