About ten days ago I was served with a notice to vacate. Seems the owner of my property wanted to remodel. So he was kicking me out. To. REMODEL. Big jerk.

Well I've been unemployed for awhile, and trying to get life back on track, trying not to lose my car, etc, and my boyfriend's been helping but it's been stressful. So I lost it. Heh. I don't cry in front of people unless they're family or the boyfriend, so losing it in front of the property manager was not in the plans. I had a month to month lease and no recourse. The apartment was crummy... but I was trying to get things together and then planned on getting out.

I thought it was the end of the world, I had nowhere to go and my bf only started working a month ago, I thought there was no way I could move anywhere.

Still, the manager took my plight seriously and got us in a new apartment! It sped up the process for me and the boyfriend who weren't planning on starting a life together for awhile... but looks like the 'verse had different plans.

But I had to move immediately. In one week's time I did 90% of it on my own, and I must say I did impress myself. My asthma behaved (miracle). I'm still sore but I did it. My boyfriend had to work and is disabled so couldn't help much, but it all worked out and now I'm in this *very* cute prewar apartment built sometime in the 30s, with that great tiling in the shower and the kitchen that only the 30s-50s could give you, with lamps that would go for a couple hundred bucks in an antique store. I have a bunch of vintage items my bf's mom gave us to move in, and soon will have my sister's 1950s kitchen table as well.

Just wanted to share(because I'm really happy) how sometimes what seems like the end of the world can be a really swell new beginning. Things have been so much better since... no more ants, no more mold in the walls, no more Deathwatch Beetles in the floor (they sure sounded the deathnell for that place), no more cracked slabs. Instead, freshly painted rooms, new carpet, cool tiling, and a living in a pink 1930s building. Hooray!

That property manager didn't have to care at all... but he did, and he helped me and my bf out and now things are really on track. The mgr even said he's tired of always being the bearer of bad news... it was nice, he said, to help someone out for once. Gives me a little hope for the world. :)

I always have to try and remind myself that things generally seem to have a way of working out. I'm one of those people who likes to have life in control, and my hands in the reigns (so to speak) at all times; so when things out of my control start to happen, I'm generally not that happy.

Still, when you try too hard to mentally and logically control every aspect of your life, it leaves you mentally exhausted. I should know, I've been through that more than I should.

I'm glad things are working out. Your apartment sounds simply fantastic! You must take some pictures of it and post it here. I'm sure we'd all love to see it.

My best friend is in exactly the same situation. However, her boyfriend had suggested that they get a house--with her name, his name and his brother's name on the title, but only her name of the loan! I'm sorry that she is moving away to be with her parents, but I'm glad she's unloading this creep.

I lived in San Diego for 3+ years, and I know it's not that easy to find an afordable apartment in such a short time unless you want to move inland desert. Congrats on the new place!

When I moved there in 97 I had to find a job asap and took the first job that was offered to me. After being there awhile and learning that the grocery stores, Vons being one of them, were union...if I took a job at Vons I would have made double the money that I made instead of doing payroll at a construction company. I know it may not be the best job in the world..but if it's still union, it might be a good "something for now" job.

I have found that something positive always comes out of something negative. Good Luck with the new place and your job search.

You just described me. I'm going through it now as a matter of fact and I'm drained.

Congrats on your place killertomata. I'm glad to hear everything worked out! I'd also like to see photos when you have them.

Behind the 8 ball,..
That's great. :eusa_clap Things always do work out. :)
I think we've all been through similar circumstances. I know I have, but I have to admit that life can be nerve wracking when we are forced to wait for something to happen that is beyond our control.

I think it's a lifelong process. I expect to have periods of time where I am better at going with the flow, and then sometimes where I'm just the most stubborn fellow around; and the most tense. Life sure is funny that way...:eusa_doh:

Definitely. I'm analytical to a fault and when I don't have guarantees about certain things, it really upsets me. I'm constantly tense and exhausted.

I'm the same way. Not being in control of this situation was really aggravating but a good lesson in what to just let go of.

I'll take pics soon! My camera is... here... somewhere in all these boxes. :D

Pics if anyone wants to see them. My camera battery isn't dying any less than it was so it bowed the sink pic a little and well... didn't want to take anymore.

My kitchen is cool. Yellow counter, green trim, I adore it. The sink needs recaulking, and I scrubbed that grout til I could scrub no more, but it's just not going to get any whiter. Still, anyone who knows me can see why I love this tiling. Obviously, the Brita is new but the plumbing fixture is nice and old fashioned yet the plumbing is modern and this is just a great combination. (the pot holder was made for me by my ten year old niece, so it gets a special place in the kitchen.)

I love this nifty little block type counter next to the fridge. Those tomatoes will be tonight's bruschetta.

We're putting in this little vintage table as soon as it's put together- we had to bring it from my mom's place in two pieces. It is my sister's but she left it behind so I'll be using it til she wants it back. This is the pattern on the table top. Cute and it matches. Circa 50s.

I love the lamp in our bedroom. It's hung from three little black chains.

The bathroom also has the nicest tiling job in the shower, but no pics. We did manage to get a nifty shower curtain from Target, though with vintage travel posters all over it. Super cute.

I'm cooking in this kitchen tonight for the first time. So excited!

Thanks! I really do feel like such a lucky gal right now.

The only drawback I've seen is the windows- they're that casement style that opens with a handle that you have to spin around- and they open sideways/outward. So there is no way to secure them while open a little. But I'm okay with that as the only drawback.

Gift horse & mouth thing, girl. You really got it going on with that apartment! :eusa_clap
Having faith is hard under the best of circumstances, but having faith in the unseen goodness of the universe when all that can be seen of the universe is devastation? - yeah, we're all working on that one.

Glad you decided to share. It's just the reminder I need right now.
