Stupid question about sleeve length

I hope this question isnt too dumb to ask here.

When they make a sport coat, blazer, or suit jacket, do they have an average sleeve length for the jacket size? Obviously, longer is better since they can be tailored to fit properly.

My concern is that, without knowning my sleeve length for coats, I will buy a jacket on line in a 40 R but the sleeves will be too short.

My shirt sleeve length is 32/33 but the coats I see do not have those numbers for sleeve length.

Thank you. It saves me trying to measure myself lol.

Do you have a suit or sportcoat that fits you well? Measure the length of the sleeve from the top of the seam where the sleeve is attatched down to the cuff. That is the sleeve length measurement that most Ebay sellers use. Some take the measurement under the arm, but in those cases you can usually ask the seller to take the top side measurement.

Also, this tutorial may be helpful.

Generally speaking, there is a correlation between sleeve length and jacket length on new RTW. From S-R-L, the sleeve length differences are about the same as that of the jacket length. Best to fit the jacket to your body and then tailor the sleeves accordingly.
