Okay ladies, it is deep (hot) summer here and I am desperately looking for a pale (white, cream, beige) straw or linen cloche. Something with a brim that is not too big and I will spend enough to get it shipped and to get something that will last, a reasonable amount anyway.
Any suggestions for online merchants, etc? Oh, and I am in Australia, so, of course they have to ship overseas if they are not here.
Thanks --

Of course I am keeping an eye on the bay.

There are a lot of online merchants in the sticky at the top of this forum. Id try those first. Perhaps the ladies can give more suggestions.

Thanks Lady Day (love your name, btw) I am combing through those now as well as heading to a hat store my husband knows about in town on Sun. I just thought I would put out some feelers here.
My husband is taking me hat hunting on Sun afternoon, is that cool or what? And he says I have to dress vintage so he can tell if the hat looks right, hahaha.

I have an original one of a kind hand made Cloche which is straw from a lady who sells on e-bay. Her company is Cloche Couture and her name is Berti Borrell. Her e-mail is: pertiberti@hotmail.com and ebay ID: buybuyberti. However this was about a year and a half ago but it is beautiful - she does a wonderful job.

Okay, Brooksie, bidding on a couple of those! Does she do custom work? I also found quite a few nice hats of different kinds on Ruby Lane.

I agree that the Berti Borrell cloches are gorgeous, Brooksie! So nicely constructed, all the way down to the lining. I don't wear many repros, but hers are absolutely top notch.

I'm guessing that you're keeping an eye on the Ebay 1920s vintage hat section, Esme? Nice light straw and horsehair cloches, including the medium brims and capelines, do come up quite often. Sometimes they need a bit of steaming to reshape them, but that's easily done. If you don't mind a slightly more contemporary twist - it doesn't have that typical narrowing of the brim at the back - (but still more 20s style cloche than 1960s bucket hat) I noticed that Nine West had a few earlier in the season.

I am not sure if she does custom work or not, you can try giving her an e-mail and find out. Good luck on your bidding.

I do not wear many repro's either (I own about 25 vintages hats ranging from the 20's through the 50's) and this cloche was a gift.
