Stocking Sizes

Hi! I'm new here but my husband has been coming here for a while...anyway I have question about stocking sizes.

I have been reading around here and figured magnolia would be ideal, although I am a little hesitant with a stocking that comes in only 3 sizes and I hear has no give. I'm hoping someone can help me with stocking sizes, because I am really confused. When I look at online sizing charts...

http://www.stockingshowcase.com/sizing.asp

...it ends up saying I should fit into the length of 36 1/2". But when I measure on my leg from heel to roughly where the top of the stocking should fit (mid to upper thigh), I measure about 29". Does the actual length end up differing from the printed length (depending on leg 'thickeness'-haha)?

My height is 5'8", though I have slightly longer legs than most people my height, and I am a size 9 shoe. I am also heavier than average.

If anyone can shed some light, it would be greatly appreciated....I hope I can give some advice in the future sometime too!

I, too, could use some help with this.

I just ordered from Magnolia - 2 pair FF, 1 pair RHT, both size large. The RHT's work just fine. However, the FF were both too long (I have a girdle, not a garter belt - does that affect it?) and IIRC bagged at both knees and ankles. Is this consistent with everyone else's experiences?

kath, I haven't done any measuring, but it sounds like we're not too far apart. I'm 5'9" and size 9 foot, also with my height in my legs. I'm on the low end of normal weight for my height, but my extra weight goes to the hips and thighs. So this is a big question for me, too!

I was going to get some Magnolia's but their size chart was down so I didn't know which to get. I ended up buying from a seller on e-bay: FFNYL and got some large, I am 5'8 and about a size UK14 (US10/12) with a US Shoe Size 10. The pair I got were extremely long too....

I'm 5' 6" but have longish legs, and take an 11-L in vintage hosiery. But I've learned from experience that a *medium* in Magnolias is a much better fit for me -- the large are evidently made for wearers over six feet tall, regardless of what the size chart says!

Getting a proper fit has a lot to do with what you'll be wearing to hold them up. I find that Magnolias tend to work much better with an open-bottom girdle or a garter belt than with a panty girdle -- the difference being the point at which the garter tab hits the thigh.

You could also try and contact the customer service of stockingirl, they're very helpful when it comes to sizes ;)

(sorry if I ever make weird mistakes, english is not my mother language )

I ordered some FFs from them too, size small, and they were VERY long. I made it work, but by the end of the Christmas party I wore them too, they were quite baggy at the ankles and knees (at least my dress covered my knees). I think my problem is that I'm both short and have chicken calves (my thighs are vuluptuous, but apparently not enough to make up for the rest of me!).

Are the RHT's significantly shorter? Maybe those will work out for me then.

I would think so! I'll try to measure and compare the longs I have, to see the different between the FF and RHT in the same size.

I have a pair of Magnolia nylons in Large, and they are way too short on me. But then I am 6' tall with a 36" inseam.

Supposedly if you have thick legs, you need a bit more length, but I've never had a pair of non-stretch nylons that were long enough. I usally buy stretch versions with seams or rht in x-long. They aren't usually long enough for me either.

Maybe someday I'll get a pair of opera length ones and see if they make it to the top of my thighs. I'm thinking no, but you never know, 39-40" should be enough.

As for the nylons bagging after a few hours, too bad, that's what they do. If you want no wrinkles, get stretch ones. However, some people like the wrinkles, if you don't, you could wear shorter ones, but they'll probably rip.

Just speaking for myself, I don't mind a little bagging; I know that's how they work. But when I wear the Magnolia large FFs, they actually feel loose even when first adjusted.

Here's the measurement report:

Magnolia RHT, Large
34" heel to top
9 1/2" toe to heel
I wear size 9 shoe and the feet in the RHTs are slightly too small. Thus when I'm wearing them, the part of the stocking that goes from my heel to the top would be probably 33" unstretched. This length is almost perfect with the girdle I wear.

Magnolia FF, Large
36" heel to top
10" heel to toe
This foot fits me perfectly; if anything, it's a little too big/loose. When I fold down a good 3-4" they're passable; however, they still bag at the sides and back of the knee. They're definitely loose in comparison to the RHTs. I'm going to try the mediums.
