It has a bit of a pen mark that you can see on the liner. Other than that it is mint.

How do you tend to bash the top of your hats, Douglas? Center crease?

Yes,a center crease with a slight pinch is my usual treatment. Some of the hats I have bought I did not change at all,the way it was when I got them is the way I wear them. Some are so far gone that they need reworking to make them wearable. I won a bid from Ebay a few days ago for a Dobbs open crown. It looks like it was never worn or styled and I almost don't want to put any kind of bash on it. It is so wonderful as is.

I have to remember to take photos of the crease.

The brim is 2-1/2". The crown is a low 4-3/4" bashed.

This may interest some folks: I recently found a Stetson ad in a 1939 issue of ESQUIRE magazine. The ad said something like, "Introducing a new model in the Stetson line: the Whippet." I guess this means that the Whippet was born in 1939.

Whippet Three Ways

Just got my Whippet 3-way. The triangular box even had the Robert Benchley ad from 1943 as a sticker on the underside of the lid. The box didn't have any internal structure, though, and some mug cut the leather strap off.

Stetson actually sold the hat a bit short, as It was open-crowned and soft enough to be hand-bashed and can be worn much more than three different ways.

I couldn't resist 1900s-20s Alpine style side dents with the brim up all around:

I haven't decided if I like the brim down all around look. I gave it a center dent with no side dents for this one:

... that be one sharp lookin' hat! There is another box (solo, no hat) upon OFAS... looks intact ... In the initial description, I wasn't aware that the Benchley in question was Robert Benchley... I might of gone after that more aggressively, glad I didn't tho' looks great on ya' & very distinctive alpine bash too.
