I have decide to sell my daily wearer a Setson 7X CB. I will be listing it on ebay with a start price of $125. Prior to listing I will offer it to forum members for $140 shipped. Previous post at http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?p=877650#post877650 post # 229
For you consideration I am offering a Stetson 7X Clear Beaver western weight pure beaver fedora. This fine hat started life as an open road stile thin ribbon 7-1/8. It had had seen a lot of wear when I received it and I personally have used the hat as a daily wearer off and on for two years. The hat resisted stretching so I sent if off to Art at VS who cleaned, re-block and sized the hat for my 22-3/4 long oval head, replaced the worn sweat band and changed out the thin ribbon with a ¾” brown ribbon for a mildly different look. The felt is heavy weight and has held up fine to hard wearing as heavy pure beaver fur felt can. There are no tears, moth damage or stains; the only real weakness is the crown pinch. The felt has wear at the pinch and where it can have a tendency to fall back to a look ago crease. The felt is not at all stiff but a good steaming will wake up the old stiffener. I removed the lining but will ship it with the hat. The lining has the old Stetson beaver and eagle crease and does not have “clear beaver quality above the crease” I own two other 7X CBs and they both have the clear beaver quality above the crease. I also own a vintage Stetson 7X that is not mark clear beaver quality on the sweat. My 7X has an identical lining. When I receive the hat the lining for glue in so it is possible the lining is not original to the hat. I mention these details because I do not like surprises when I purchase vintage hats even minor ones. The felt on the 7X CB I am selling is heavier than the felt on my other 7X CBs or my 100s.
Pictures 4 & 5 show the hat when I first purchased it about two years ago. Picture 3 shows the hat freshly back from Art with a high crown crease. Pictures 1-3 are recent. Prior to send the hat to Art I wore it with a diamond crease and high steam boat front. As you can see with a little steam this felt will take any crease I have attempted.
My logic might be skewed but the reason I am selling this hat is it the only hat I wear unless ii is straw weather, I need a beater for heavy yard work or am dressing up with is rare. I own 25 other hats and want to force myself to start wearing some of the hats sitting in boxes.
Dimensions brim 2-1/2” side and rear, 2-3/4” front: crown open 5-1/2”: Interior 8” X 6-1/4” fits 22-3/4 long oval
