Really seems unworn. This ain't no Open Road... Box is great too. Seems like a slightly finer finishing than the 3X--maybe a touch of Beaver in the blend. Kind of halfway between the 3X and 7X as one might expect. Felt weight is thicker than the 25 and a little less compacted(25 has almost no texture). Unusual tall center crease with side dents like a Diamond. Pretty firm stiffening though still soft and smooth. 5-1/2""crown height at peaks as creased. 2-7/8" polished raw edge brim. Thankfully, also a perfect snug fit as it has same oval as my Cranium.

Stetson also made the Hargens box as a regular hat box without a hinged lid or handles and a plain cardboard interior. Mine is in pieces. Nice hat.

Fantastic, rlk. I think you've actually acquired a rather rare one there. Honestly, I don't think I recall ever seeing an actual vintage 4X before. In case it may help in terms of dating, here is a 1957 gift box that matches up with your box for the 4X:

Another 4X. This one fits into various threads, but I think RLK got it right in opening up one just for this Stetson line. The three box red inventory tag and square orange to duplicate likely indicates an early 30s hat. The back of the sweatband was sewn and the threads attaching the sweat to the reed are very fine and parallel.

A 6 inch crown and 4 inch brim, nearly Joao-worthy.

The sweatband is toast on this hat, but you can see from the pics this is a big boy!

Thanks to Bob for sending it my way; the sellers listed it as a 21 inch circumference but it turns out their measurement was a little bit off. If folks had known it was a 7 3/8 I doubt I would have won it!

Great hat. Strange that we see more 7X hats than 4X.
