Hi gents... just doing the gentlemanly thing and posting a 'heads up'...

Popped into Son of Stagg the other day, they still have a couple of ELC jackets high up on the shelves.
I tried on a Monarch A-2 size 40 or 42 XL, fantastic leather... would fit someone 5'11 or 6 ft beautifully!
Also tried a 44 house A-2 (bit big on me) and an M422a 38L (I would have bought this on the spot if it had been a 40L - they called it a G-1 ;).
They had a couple of others I think. These are new jackets, on sale!
May be worth an email and get them to measure them up. They were not aware these were 'long' sizes...

Good luck

I'm absolutely sure that these are all lovely jackets and stitch perfect but I saw an ELC Star contract in Son of Stagg and the stitching on part of the collar looked as if the machinist had got distracted and let it wander in a gentle curving detour before easing back on to its path and travelling on its way! I couldn't believe that SoS let sit on their racks!

Wasn't that part of the charm?

On an original A2 that was what it was like. 'My Lucky 7 Seven' A2 has stitches wandering all over, also epaulette box stitching different sizes, I doubt it would get through most quality controls even on a Mall jacket.

I contacted Stag and got the measurements.. incase anyone is interested in picking one of these up, the Monarch they have is a size 40L or XL… if it was a 42 i'd have taken it but it's just a bit too trim in the chest and shoulders for me. Here's the measurements:

Monarch size 40

Pit to Pit: 55cm
sleeve length( underarm): 54cm
Back: 67cm
Shoulder: 44cm

I tend to think that you need to look on ELC, Aero, Good Wear etc as if they were the best examples of the original jackets: ones where the cutters had taken the time to get panels perfect and sewn together by the best seamstresses who could stitch perfectly even under pressure. I imagine the pilots were pretty miffed when they were handed a duff A-2., like the one I bought on eBay and came with a zip that was too short for the length of the jacket. The seamstress had obviously run out of the right zips, so just s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d one from a smaller size to fit, which it did at the time, but the tapes eventually shrank back, leaving it with an odd lop-sided 'pull' to the leather...
