A smashing vintage armadillo bag. This is an actual armadillo which has been made into a bag:eek: . I think it is from the 40s or perhaps 50s. It is from Mexico where they are a tasty dish so it is no crueller than a leather bag:eusa_doh: . The strap is plaited leather and adjustable. A very unusual conversation piece handbag!!! lol

I see these rather often and they are SO nasty! There's a few on the bay right now. However, I've never seen one in red and it looks a bit better, lol!

This looks like one of those items they used to sell at tourist traps in the 1950's. Probably hit by a car, then turned into a purse. I'll have to pass on this one. I like animals too much.

When I was on the road I use to stop off at the Big Texan restarant on Route 66 in Amarillo Tx. and they had some of these purses in the gift shop there. I used to see live armadillos all of the time when I lived out in the sticks in Texas. I have also seen purses made out of baby alligators (with the head still on) at some of the antique shows in Portland.

Oh I saw this too. I thought that it was awfull. I know it was more then likely the height of fashion at the time of creation. I just can't hang with the whole animal stuff.

OK, I saw this on ebay and it finally ended so I have to share it with ya'll. Ok the feathers are beautiful, but the little leg hanging down is creepy!!! And I love her suggestion to wear it to a Jimmy Buffett concert!!!
 Whoa.

I am both creeped out and awed at once... It would look great with a simple cocktail dress for the shock value alone. You could even tell people a story about a parrot that fell dead at your feet in the bahamas and you had it made into a hat as a bizarre souvenir! Doubt I would feel comfortable wearing a dead bird on my head though!

*didn't expect the animal acoutrements when I clicked on this thread*
I'm not really a fan of using whole animals as fashion, I think inspired and faux pieces are great though.
The parrot hat was probably at the height of fashion when it was made... I think the feathers/concept are pretty just don't like the head and the creepy little foot.

OI!!! I might be sick ... and yet I would adore seeing it on someone else. I'm sure I'd love seeing it on someone really outre and fashionable, but evidently I am not that woman. (If I saw it, I'd be like "Ooh! I want that!" but it's on ebay and available and all I can think is "Eeeewwww!")

Maybe I'll make a fake one out of feathers and cardboard. the shape is all kinds of awesome.
