We've had nothing but rain for weeks here in the Northwest. Here's a picture of a vintage Knox fedora I've been wearing to work every day in the rain. The crown has not changed shape at all despite the regular soakings it's received.

Optimo are great, vintage are super

I have been wearing my "work fedora" , a 1940's vintage Cavanagh. Art looked at this hat one day at his shop, and said it was a fine hat. I was looking at it with knowledge that I wore it mowing the lawn, trimming the tree, brushing off the chain saw chips from the brim...

This hat shows NO and I mean NO!! tendency to taper whatsoever. Vintage, in my opinion is the "Holy Grail" of hats. Now, some new makers are wonderful, don't get me wrong. My Optimo that tapered like a water sissy was a very, very early Optimo (6 years ago). Graham has completely changed his felt bodies. I figured he used the best he could find at the time. It is still a nice hat. I am sending it back for a block.
