I got stung for nearly two grand by a publisher who filed for bankruptcy. The worst of it is that this publisher had a personal wealth in the millions, but the publication itself was incorporated, of course, so the scalawag's personal assets were shielded.
I feel your pain, and Lizzie's too. Some years ago, I was taken for ten grand by non other than Kodak. They had a company in the UK called Print Movers. What they did was to collect customers 35mm film from photographic shops, pharmacies and other outlets, take the film back to their laboratories, develop them and return the prints next day. My company did all the delivering and collecting for a large area around London. When digital photography came along, Kodak put Print Movers into administration, ring fencing it of course. However, the receivers found some sort of shenanigans had been going on and as a result of that, we received about six and half grand back, paid in installments over a three year period. Pity those that went down in the domino pile with Print Movers. You only got your money back if you were still trading.

Stearmen & Zombie_61, does driving on the righthand side of the road have a similar effect to those of us who drive on the left? We have a rule book that is the bible of all learner drivers, it's called The Highway Code. One of the many common sense rules explained in it is, that if there's a blockage on the side of the road on which you are driving, for example, a parked car, you must give way to oncoming traffic before you pass around the blockage. It would seem that once a driving licence has been gained, The Highway Code goes straight out of the window.
Something on my side of the road? Something else coming from the opposite direction? No problem, I was here first, therefore, first come, first served.

You can say a lot of things about Americans of the Era, but there were plenty of them who weren't bystanders.

I sometimes wounder if they even administer a test before you can get your drivers license these days?

The first part of your post is how it's supposed to work, but common sense isn't so common around here.

There's an obstacle in my lane. I should...
  1. Slow down, or stop if necessary, then check to see if I am able to safely drive around this obstacle.
  2. Accelerate and get around this thing before that oncoming traffic gets here.
  3. Slow down, try to drive around it, realize there are cars coming from the opposite direction, then stop dead in my tracks blocking traffic in both directions until everyone drives around my dumb ass.

Yesterday evening, I decided, that in future, I will only go into clothing-store, for buying new underwear, carrying my measuring-tape with me!!

Yesterday, in the first half of the day, I bought new fine-rib and double-rib, size 6(L).
Returned home, I of course compared with my existent shorts, holding one above the other, and saw, that the first pair of (fairtrade-cotton)double-rib slips from their nice main-storebrand seems to be a correct 6 (american/international "L"). But then, I saw, that the pair of double-rib shorts from another storebrand are very well fitting on my body. But, they are closer cutted, so you could see, that this is obviously a 5(M), not the declared 6(L)! Now, I was irritated. Then, I took the last pair of fine rib-shorts from the same storebrand and thought first, that they seem to be a correct 6(L). But later, I saw, that they are however wider as a 6(L), means they are a real 7(Xl)!

I compared further all of my extisting shorts cross-over and did additonal further research on the internet.

And in the end of the day, I finally comprehended, that todays underpant-6(L) isn't my correct size. My correct size can only be the 5(M)! Because, the 6(L) is still fitting ok, but I never felt it absolutely right or fitting perfect. I found it always a little too slippy and wondered about this.

And the curious thing:
My older retroshorts (boxer-briefs) from different brands, which were the main part of my undies until today morning, age six years and older, are ALL still declared as 7(XL), but they are ALL accordingly the todays 6(L)!
And of course, why should a leptosome men, looking like a month after concentration-camp, have a size XL(7) on any clothing?? And equally a size L(6), when He was always a thin person, generally having size of international/american "M"??

On comparing all my undies again, yesterday evening, I took my measuring-tape and I saw, that all the correct-sized 6(L)-shorts got a cuff-wide from left to right side of 36 cm +/-0,5. At my three unused correct-sized 7(XL), the cuff-wide is 38 +/-0,5.
And at the two new 6(L) double-rib shorts, with the very pleasant and real size 5(M), the cuff-wide is 34 cm +/-0,5.

An, of course, the UK-size on underwear, for example, is:

S = German 4 = UK 32
M = German 5 = UK 34
L = German 6 = UK 36
XL = German 7 = UK 38
XXL = German 8 = UK 40
3XL = German 9 = UK 42
and so on..

! ;)

So, today, I took my measuring-tape with me, measured exactly and bought in two different towns eleven new and correct size 5(M)-shorts. Nine typical todays slim fit-retroshorts/boxerbriefs (with 5 to 10% elasthan) and a further storebrand-pair of the classic regular-fitted 100%-cotton fine rip-pants (in grey colour ;) ).

Life's good and nothing compares to correct fitting underwear!! :):cool:

So, grab your friendly measuring-tape and look exactly, before buying! :D

PS:
At the first town, where I bought the first three pieces, I measured a size 5(M) boxer-brief under all the offered pants, which was a real size 4(S), with cuff-wide of 31 cm. There, you can see it!

That kind of driver isn't unique to western Europe then, I say western because it's like Armageddon in the east, you only have to watch YouTube to see how crazy they are.

I pretty near had an episode of "lobby rage" tonight, but my self control held, barely. Let's just say that when I'm dictator 60-year-old bourgeois women with an overstated sense of their own privilege will have a very very very difficult time of things. Let's see how your manicure holds up when you're slopping out your own toilet.

I know the feeling. Sometimes I wonder if my truck came equipped with a stealth device that I don't know about but have somehow unwittingly activated. :mad: Or maybe I should notify the U.S. military that Billet Silver will render their vehicles invisible?
I will say, grey and silver vehicles are the hardest to see in certain light conditions. all the cars I have pulled in front of in recent years were one of those colors! I now sympathies with the driver that pulled in front of James Dean's silver 550 Spyder!

Why don't you make your test more difficult? Every one knows the correct answer is 3! :) Incidentally, I had an elderly women do that in front of me just today. :confused:
