I noticed today that there is a single snagged thread in a silk neck tie. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to remove it?

Thanx!!!
Charlie

There is only one way to remove loose/snagged threads from silk neckties, and that is to burn them off using a lighter. As long as you make a waving movement of the lighter while going over the affected areas, avoiding longer contact of the flame and the silk, there will be no residues. Quality silk simply burns off unlike synthetic fabrics which melt. This method is also very useful for removing the very fine threads that may come loose on the surface of woven pattern silk ties, be it on the visible side or on the reverse side of the tie.
Do not, I repeat, do not cut the thread with a blade, scissors or whatever.

Using a lighter on silk neckties is nothing unusual, some ties require a bit of flame at the edges every once in a while. No need to dispose of the tie.
