Regardless of where it's made, I think Simon's passion is indicitive of a high level of quality control. I'd buy one in a heartbeat. It's hard to avoid assuming anything not manufactured in the countries of the talked about makers here don't possess the same level of quality...but I really think Simon knows what he's doing.

I just re read the post on SJC. They are being made in Pakistan. 6th biggest tannery in the world, with a reputation for ethical working conditions etc, so that looks really good to me. It's a great thread over there, it's worth reading the whole lot if anyone is keen.

I know the work can be good. My main concern from these factories is that they source good and tested thread and lining fabrics. If they use materials that have a track record, that's great. If not they tend to tear and loose stitches.

Simon said that they work for a lot of big European designers. So they are probably use to work for demanding clients and use good thread. The lining will be a mercerized tonal cotton drill of Simon's choosing. My impression is that Simon is totally obsessive of quality. I have no concerns in that department.

What I like more than anything is that it's NOT another "me too" jacket, and clearly a lot of thought has gone into the design.

Agreed. Over at the SJC forum, there's been a lot of stress placed on designs across therange not being yet another iteration of something that's already done and done very well by another company, be that Levis, Schott, Aero, or whomever. More satisfyinbg from a creative point of view, and hopefully it will bear fruit commercially as it allows SJC to be it's own thing rather than "budget Aero" or whatever.

I'm holding out for the engineer boots. And a gang sweater.

I'm excited about the boots too. Hopefully eventually a pair in each colour, but I'll likely start with the burgundy...

Man, I'm also gonna jump onboard SJC now. After the fiasco of Lawless Denim (several pairs of pants & jackets unaccounted for), and now Maple Motorcycle Jeans declaring insolvency in between my order, gonna take a jaundiced view of any new online denim/ apparel company going forward. Looks like SJC has their ducks in a row, right? At least never had issues with Gustin so far.

Simon has avoided falling into the trap that a lot of start-ups did by over-committing themselves. The bits I've bought so far (two pairs of jeans, wabash denim hunting vest, cap, bandanas) have all bee superb.

If you were looking at the Maple denims, SJC also do the Yard Boss jeans and jacket in a kevlar-lined version.

Unfortunately, I don't lead the kind of exciting life where Kevlar-lined garments are necessary

I am resigned to a period of poverty while studying and can't join in with SJC. I want to get involved, but won't weigh into all the fun discussions about stuff I'm not going to be able to buy. A few years back I'd have been all over the leather jacket and 30s suit design-to-buy projects.
