Sizing Question

Hello everyone, and thank you all for the great advice on the care and feeding of hats. Everyone on this site seems to be very nice and I feel like I already know some of you.

I wear a size 7 and can't help but feel I'm missing out on some great hats because they are size 71/8. I already know some vintage hats fit a little snug due to being stored in the heat because the leather band shrinks. So I'm wondering just how much difference there is in the fit between 7 and
7 1/8. I'm wondering if packing something inside the band, would covert a
7 1/8 to a 7.

I am of course speaking of hats on that certain internet auction site which makes trying them on ahead of time impossible.

Any thoughts?

You'll probably be OK

I used to be worried about that "1/8" difference, too. Especially being sort of between sizes. But with vintage, you might be alright. The only reason I would say No is if you've actually worn a 7 and it's touching your ears. In most cases, slipping something under the band will do the trick.

One thought I just had- Some hats had the size tag in 2 parts like the numeral 7 on one tage and 1/8 or 1/4 beside it. Of course over time if the 1/8th part gets detached- very possible- the seller thinks he has a size 7 hat and it is not.
