Sizing Question

Good Evening Gents,
What in the world would a size 7/8 be? I'm eyeing an old Stetson but have no idea what this would be. Any clue why some vintage hats come with thype of sizing tag vice having a more logical say 7 7/8, if there is such a size? Or is it possible this thing is just a 6 7/8? Thanks in advance folks.

I think i'm watching the same hat. I've seen this sorta thing in the past, but I'm not sure if they gave the circumfrence or not. I'd say the best thing to do would be to ask the seller to measure the hat to see how big around it is.

Not sure how you interpreted that, but I assumed he was referring to how 7/8 would most likely be the hat size for a pinhead

You have a 6 7/8...hat makers dropped the "whole" number, including the fraction as the size...

1/8 is a 7 and
1/4 is a 7 and....

and so on


the 5/8 and 7/8 denote 6 and....


remember, our heads are much much fatter today....the most common size back in the vintage arena is a 7 1/8.....

I just saw it on my primary source of hats, Ebay and was wondering how all that worked. Now I redouble my efforts to keep an eye out for 3/8th Thank you for the Info sir.
