It's deer. I like the pinked edge details on some of the seams. Gives it that little bit of a western flair without going into scalloped yokes and fringe like most deerskin jackets do. I can't tell if it was originally smooth or suede side out. The liner is long gone and both sides are so beat that it's hard to say.

The zip is a "deco" Talon, but like the rest of the jacket, it's seen better days. Puller and part of the male side of the zipper track are missing.

Early style chain zip on the pocket

Snaps are early United Carr.

This jacket is missing the maker's label but has an old label that reads 'western ranch-hide' - whatever that means.

I love the color, the leather, and the fit. I need to get it re-lined (the current coarse red lining is unbearable) - any suggestions for nice patterns appropriate for this style would be appreciated. The cooler the better. Leaning towards a cotton flannel but may end up with just a utilitarian black cotton drill.
