This Carl Zeiss NVA (Nationale volks arme)east german binocular...also called CHECKPOINT CHARLIE binocular has a special history, going back to where the russians decided to build the wall in Berlin, to devide the east from the west.
They ordered the Carl Zeiss factory - situated in east germany, to create a tank solid military 7x40 binoccular, that was even effective in the night, equipped with a rectile, which could be illuminated, for measuring the distance by night.
It is considered one of the best binoculars ever made from the Zeiss factories in east.
They re not easy to get anymore, but are seen on Ebay auctions from time to time.
I bought my 2 copies right after the tear down of the wall, where I happened to be in westBerlin playing jazz with my band at a cafe nearby Unter den linden.
A lot of russians were establing tables, selling anything for reasonably money.
Today these fine binoculars are seen onauctions for the price of 300 - 350 Euro

Show what you got on the shelf, there must be a lot of american and german and english bin`s out there, each one telling a story.
Many german wartime binoculars found their way home to US and England.
