From two larger lots of ties (mostly narrow late-50's) I found some nice 30's - 40's ties:

Brocade - Silk or artificial silk:

Wool and Irish Wool&Silk blend:

There are some nice ones there. The 'PERO' tie is probably pre-1945: I beleive their factory in Weissensee was destroyed in 1945, with the business relocating to Hamburg (if I remember correctly).

The burgundy tie with diagonal stripes is rather lovely. One of the nicest ties I've seen for some time.

Hi Folks

What were the average neck tie lengths in each decade?

Say 1910 to 1920
1920/30 etc say until 1960?

I am trying to ascertain the progression in terms of how the average length of a tie increased in size each decade or two decades and if that progression was due in part to the average height of a gentleman increasing each decade or two..

Thank you for your comments and opinions.

Regards

CCJ: I won't give you a tutorial on tie length over the decades (many here can do that, too), but I will say that one reason ties increased in length was due to the shedding of vests after WWII, supposedly caused by an increase in central heating. When vests were used, ties did not have to be long since the vest would cover most of the chest. When vest-less suits increased in number, though, accompanied by a drop in lapels, necktie length increased in order to cover more of the chest.
