It's been a long time since I've been in a Goodwill or Salvation Army, and I think I should check again. Those Art Deco floral ties are definitely a lot more interesting than most modern ties you can buy are, although I have an appreciation for solid ties as well (about to get one like I said earlier). My only concern is that these ties were made relatively short. If I wear pants with a rise around the naval (or one inch below), could I get, say a 46-50 inch long tie to stop just above my belt where the pants begin? Are they just meant to be worn higher than this? My trousers aren't particularly high rise, so do you think the combination can work? I would imagine that the back end of the tie would have to rise a lot higher than the front in order to accomplish this length.

For what it's worth, I've never yet handled a vintage tie, and I'm a 6'1", 155 lbs guy.

You are just going to tie the tie longer and end up with a shorter tail at the back. I do it all the time. Works fine for me. :D

Great, I guess it'll work. Even if it was done back in the day, I don't think a tie looking very short is the best look, unless of course one is wearing all or almost-completely vintage clothes to pull off the look. I don't think most modern suits would fit in with that style.

Oh, modern suits fit. In fact, they really need something to make them pop and look better. :D
I tie my ties longer even if I wear a vintage suit. I just like to show more of that color and pattern splash.

Seems to me men never unbuttoned their double-breasted suits back then and only a few inches of the tie was ever exposed. On some old movies I've seen some men take off their suit coats revealing that the tie was tied very short. I actually have a few ties where the design is mainly on the top portion and the rest of it sort of blank. I call those my DB ties....if I had a DB.

Oh, they certainly did. I just tie mine longer. :p
I have several DB suits so I really don't have to but I just might unbutton my coat. :D

Three scrounged from the local thrifts in the last month. The brown and red are rayon and have no label. The blue is silk.
