I bought an old leather bag today at a vintage clothing-shop. I managed to hack $15.00 off the sale-price, by virtue of me being a regular at said-shop, even though I rarely buy anything.

The bag is in whole condition, but I would like to treat it somehow, to preserve the leather. I wonder how I can do that.

Here is the bag.

ACTUAL BUCKLES! OH MY GOD!!:

No more magnets that wear out! No more clasps that break and open when you don't want them to! REAL BUCKLES AND STRAPS!!

Handy front pouch, with space for pens etc.

Big rear storage-area.

Zip-compartment. Handy!

At the time, neither I, nor the shop's manager could find any I.Ding marks on it. But on closer inspection, I realised that there is actually a label inside the bag. But it's extremely hard to read. Perhaps someone can decipher it for me?

It says...

THE LEATHER
COLLECTION

MADE IN [Something]

And then two words at the bottom, which looks like they start with C and L.

Looks like it says:

Made in Colombia
Genuine Leather

It also looks to me like the word before "Leather Collection" starts with a V, but I can't tell what it says.

Stopped by our local Goodwill today and picked up a summer weight sport coat- a D Fine glen plaid-golden brown with navy stripes and gold monogrammed metallic buttons- made for his shop when it was in the Mirage casino. In great shape and for less than $4. Finely made jacket made of high grade fabric. I see that there is still a D Fine shop in the Bellagio. Earl

Back when stuff was made to last...

At the bottom are my grandmother's 8-inch dressmaking shears. WISS-brand No. 28s, made in the U.S.A. Freshly sharpened by the knife-grinder.

A pair of steel snippers for thread.

And at the top, my BONUM-brand all-steel points. I bought this just recently and just got it back from the knife-grinder last week. I've done some research, and from what I've found, the Bonum, 10in. tailors' points were (or are, I'm not sure how old they are) made by a company in Germany. Apparently, they're actually WALLPAPER SCISSORS (which probably explains their length), but I'll use them as tailor's points for my sewing-projects.

The upper pair are a very serious set of scissors! They seem like they could be a murder weapon in a Holmes mystery!

Oh they're gigantic! From grip to tip, they're 10 inches long. And even unsharpened, that tip is POINTY! I joked to a friend that you could kill a guy with them, an then use them to cut the fabric to make the suit for the funeral.

Today, I bought a mechanical alarm-clock.

I used to have one of these as a child. Sadly, one day, the frame holding the bell-spring cracked (either crappy workmanship, or metal-fatigue and tension), and the whole thing blew up on me. It was useless after that.

The clock I bought looks like this:

Except, it's a plain dial, without those stupid fiddly pictures on the sides.

Price? $3.00 at the thrift-shop. I wound it up, and it's keeping very good time.

I have a battery-powered, double-bell alarm-clock, made of brass. But I decided to get this one, for a few reasons.

1. It's mechanical. Cute!
2. It's smaller. So it takes up less space on my bedside-table.
3. It's easy to read and it glows in the dark where it counts.
4. It's harder to turn off when the alarm rings.

4. was one of the *main* reasons why I wanted this clock.

I love my electric clock, but it has one big fault. It's too easy to turn off the alarm. When it rings, I reach out, press a button, and it's off.

And far too many times, I've done that in my sleep. Literally. It's gone off, I've turned it off, and remained sleeping. Or at least, dropped right back to sleep afterwards. And then I wake up two hours later in a panic, and wonder why my clock hasn't worked, only to find the alarm in the 'off' position, when I KNOW I set it the night before.

I figure this, with the alarm-set lever, will force me to actually get up, pick up the clock and physically turn the bell off by hand. And hopefully prevent post-alarm drop-offs.

That's exactly like ours Shangas. But I will warn you, being woken up by them is absolutely brutal, they make such a racket that you are instantly jarred awake. I doubt anyone could possibly sleep through it unless they were stone deaf.

I used to have one (or I did, until the bell-spring broke). So I know *EXACTLY* how loud they are. And that's precisely why I bought it!

Because the old one, the electric one, is useless! It rings, I turn it off. I press a button, and then I forget about it and go to sleep.

This, I have to get up, pick it up, and physically adjust the hammer-stop to stop the alarm. So that should wake me up much better.
