I think the straight skirt looks great on you! So slimming and tall-making!
And it is lovely to watch the changing seasons in your photo background too - the Bay Area is lovely, but we don't get real seasons here.

KamiKat,
I was going to say the same thing, the skirt looks fab on you !!!!!!!
Where is it from ??

I just got my first pencil skirt. I've been hesitant to try them on my figure, but I think it works.

I won this lovely little number today:

It's described as "Vintage" Laura Ashley, and I have a feeling it's an 80's repro piece, but I really don't know much about dating clothing. Based on the history of the company, though, it would have to have been made in 1966 or later. It does have a very 1960's drop waist, but the fabric just screams 80's.

I love it, no matter what era it's from. The skirt has an attached crinoline that is made out of blue tulle and trimmed in pink! I can't wait for it to get here. I've never bought clothing online before, and I really hope this goes well!

Cute dresses PS and maggiethespy! I wish I was able to get away with purchasing pricier items like suits and whatnot more often (30 bucks is putting us in the poor house according to hubby  ). But I finally told him to shut his yap and be happy with my new suit:

It was more than I really wanted to spend, but I've been wanting something like this for a while now, and it's hard finding suits for my proportions.

I bought my first two pieces of bakelite, though I know nothing about it and hope I haven't bought fakes! Both were from sellers with extremely good feedback and most of that of bakelite sales, and neither were particularly expensive. I hope they match ok when they arrive!

Now, no more spending until the GBP has recovered slightly.

Fleur, I collect vintage costume jewelry and green is my favorite color so I'm green with envy, but happy for you.:)

Maggiethespy and PS, your dresses are absolutely lovely! Your blue dress looks a bit like a retro grey, brocade, dress I have but mine has an A-line skirt. It's my "safe" dress for informal lunches, casual dinners, etc.

Fluer, I have a thick bakelite cuff bracelet that is the same color as your green one. I love the green color and wear it all the time. I'm jealous of your matching earrings.

whew, finally after a long dry non-winning spell, I got a good short warm jacket to see me through out coastal winter. I haven't had much luck finding a Pendleton 49er that I like in both size/fabric, but this will take the edge off :)

Most of my wardrobe leans to black/red/grey, so this should be perfect.

I did buy a great cream colored swing coat at a local consignment shop, but haven't had a chance to photograph it yet. It still had it's original big brown button, but no labels.

Maggie, it is an 80s dress. Laura Ashley did lots of that style about the mid 80s. They are now becoming collectable within their own right.

Brown velveteen skirt with braces - so 40s! Apparently they've been removed and there's some kind of button mod so it can be worn just as a skirt. We'll see!

Black wool jersey jacket/sweater. I LOVE this one. It's got the trim shape of a structured jacket, but it's comfortable as a sweater.

Reversible black/gray pleated skirt. These are so much fun to wear. When wearing the dark stripe on top, the light part kind of flashes when I walk.

Navy blue circle skirt. The seller says it's felt, but in my experience it's just as likely to be medium-weight flannel. Again, we'll see!

And on another note... :(

Remember this? Well, it doesn't quite work for me, either.

It's definitely not a bad look, like the red rust knit dress was. It's just not flattering. This dress is tailor-made for shorter pear or round shapes. The waist is a good 34", and my 38" hips are swimming in it. The shoulders medium to wide, and the sleeves are a little short for me. They're perfect on the 5'4" model. It's an amazing dress with a label in what looks like German, and a size tag of 46. Get this - it's not just any black wool, but black wool jersey. It's a knit! So comfortable and lovely, with those buttons and the pintucks and original belt, and definitely a Large or more. There are a few moth bites I didn't know about; the jersey weave and the black color really hide them. They'll be easy to mend. If anyone's interested, let me know!
