Latest acquisition, a 1902 Philippine Constabulary revolver via estate sale.
it is the Colt Model 1878 Double Action revolver that was adopted specifically to fight the Moro tribesmen in the Philippines.
I have always had a weakness for the 1878, beautiful design, but I did not believe I could find one of the 1902's, only 4,600 made.

the M1911A1 fits my hand pefectly, never had any problems with a M1911A1, probably because of small hands

Try as I may to guard against it, the flesh between my thumb and index finger always gets caught under the hammer of any original or mil spec 1911 I fire. Two-handed shooting...I'm usually good. One-handed rapid fire...I get bitten every time.

I had that happen to me once shooting a loaned 1911 from a buddy of mine. Not a good thing to have happen to you.

It is funny how that effects some people and not others. That is one of the reasons for the A-1, with the beaver tail. I have fairly meaty hands, (OK, fat,) and I have no trouble with my 1914 made 1911. Then again, I only use it for the occasional target work, and always check to see where the web of my hand is before the first shot! I imagine, shooting combat quick draw, it's a different story when you choke up on the grip.

New Look for an Old Friend.

I bought my S&W Model 60 in 1982 when they were rare and hard to find. I paid as much for this gun in 1982 as they are selling for today (about double what a blue steel Chief’s Special cost back then). This was also during the days of poor QC at S&W in the early ‘80s, which required two action jobs resulting in an improved, but still mediocre trigger pull. That being said, this gun was my daily companion, on and off duty, for over 20 years before I moved it into semi-retirement. Back in the day I had always admired the Herrett stocks, but never bought a set. My M-60 wore Pachmayr Compact grips for most of its life, occasionally switching back to Magnas, or a Barami Hip-Grip, with a grip adapter when necessary.

I came across a mint set of Herrett’s a couple of weeks ago and decided to try them out on the M-60 – and I really like them. It’s a great look, and if you’ve never used them, the concept is that of a “reverse” grip adapter. The grips are open at the front, and built up over the back-strap. Model 60 is shown in a vintage Bucheimer Marshal holster.

I have several 1911's none mil spec. The closest to mil spec was probably the hammer on my gold cup which has since been modified with beavertail and a smaller more rowel type hathmmer. The reason I said BHP was the bite I got from mine before modifications, I finally put a cylinder and slide rowel hammer and it does not reach back quite as far to bite me.

Yeah, I have had to take the length off of several 1911s due to my oversized paws. I saw what a PPK would do to others, I'm not about to try one of those! And wow, those Herret's and Esmerelda grips are just plain fine!

I have a PPK, and it's not my favorite gun to shoot. Recoil is surprisingly harsh, I guess it's the straight blowback. I tend to put my little finger under the bottom of the magazine so I do not choke up on the grip and have not had any hammer bite problems.

My Walther PPK was a beautifully made, classic weapon but it ate the web of my hand every time I put rounds through it.
With all the excellent pistols out there why lose a chunk of my anatomy with every shot.

Survived the gunfight, died of gangrene from the slide bite!
