Thanks so much, Gals!
Kamikat- the fabric is kind of a pain, but it's so comfy when it's together! If I hadn't have been darn determined to wear it the next day I think I would have thrown mine in the UFO pile, too lol

That is darling! I had the same problem with a rayon linen blend 2 piece I was working. I put it on the UFO pile instead of persevering, like you did.

What do you do with those UFO's? I find my projects either work or not.If they don't and if they're too big I can tweak them, too smalland they end up in limbo.

I give them 6 months, then take it out. Sometimes a fresh eye has new ideas on how to make it work. If it doesn't work then, it get turned to scraps or in the garbage.

1940's style hat

This thread is so inspiring! Here's a hat I recently finished that I'm in love with how it turned out.

brownhat_worn.jpg

I heavily modified a free knitting pattern then felted it in my washing machine. Hand blocked it on a styrofoam head and finished it with a black grosgrain ribbon and felt swallow cutout.

This dress was the thrift find that inspired the hat. :)
Blog post with all the details if anyone's interested. www.pieknits.com/blog/

Thanks for posting the modifications, I am in love with the hat too! After I finish my new cloche, I'm definitely making it.

PS, I'm lusting after your shoes!

The only special thing about this dress is I made it to mimic one my Grandmother is wearing in an old b&w photo. :) I haven't sewn anything for me in a while and I figured since I have to sew 26 tuba covers for a marching band in a week or so that I would hurry and get some of my projects done. lol Love looking through all the pictures!!!

Your dress came out nice. Do you resemble your grandmother? Those tuba covers sound like the type of job I'd end up with.Something like this? http://www.ecbensonassociates.com/products/th_55268wo8-tuba-custom.jpgDo you do graphics on them also?

I don't really resemble her lol I have a photo of her and never really noticed her dress till I started sewing. Those are the type of covers. I basically cut the rounds and sent them out to have the schools graffics printed on them. When they are done I will sew the casing and do the elastic. I think the band director is pretty happy with the money saved at having a band mom make them ;)

Hepkitty inspired me to make Butterick 5603. I whipped it up yesterday!

I did a similar project for a local hockey team. I sewed up canvas seat back covers to fit seats in the stadium and had them
silkscreened with the sponsor's logo.VIP seating.

Found some pretty fabric on clearance so I made up a twirly skirt, took about 5 yards. The part I love is that I did the gathering with my serger. :D
