the painter Balthus photographed by Man Ray, 1930, with an unusually large tie knot:
(you can find instructions online about how to tie a 'Balthus')

Found this on tumblr with the title "Spring 1932" and no additional information.
Great fabric and confusing trousers. At first I didn't recognize them as plus fours (they are?) and then I saw the double watch pockets. Amazeballs.

talking about large knots and showing you Hannibal lecters bespoke suits which are always peak lapel and with some form of bold fabric. I know this aint vintage but I couldn't resist. I do like the luciferian air he has.

They couldn't give him devil's horns, so peak lapels had to make do.

well some of the styles of the seventies were taken from the 30s.
not saying its a 30s suit. But its always a peak lapel 3 piece suit with a great silhouette

So here are a couple of screen grabs:
Bela is rather more sedately dressed in the second half of the film:

This photograph is extremely intriguing to me, because it demonstrates a very late use of an extremely common Victorian style, namely the wing collar with four-in-hand necktie and an informal suit. I absolutely love this look, not least because it's extremely Victorian, but also because it adds just a pinch more decorum to an otherwise informal suit. Certain style guides I've read have gone so far as to call this a faux-pas, but I disagree. It was once extremely common, but to see it in a 1940s (?) film is surprising.

Albert Einstein, incidentally, was very fond of wearing a four in hand with a wing collar, as was Neville Chamberlain.

From They Drive by Night.

tbh - I must confess I didn't pay much attention to Bogey in that picture when you see that lady....Ida Lupino I believe.
