Huey P. Long, ca. 1934:

100616_huey-long-at-football-game_800_dna.jpg

Headline: "Green with Envy"

"Huey P. Long, second from left, former governor of and senator for Louisiana[,] sits on the sidelines of a Tulane-LSU football game. Although the photo is undated, the reactions of The Kingfish and his entourage suggest that this could have been the 1934 tilt between the Green Wave and the Tigers when Tulane’s Claude 'Little Monk' Simons took a lateral on a fourth-quarter punt and ran it back 45 yards for a 13-12 Wave victory. Long was known to have been in attendance for the game, and legend has it he growled as Simons crossed the goal line."

Note the different colors and creases, and the uncreased hat to the far right (whose owner seems to be the only one with a wristwatch; perhaps the others wore pocket watches). Also the patterns on Huey's socks!

When I first started carrying a gun for a living, the only dept. issued weapons were old S&W model 10's that sounded like baby rattlers when you shook them. I had a .41 that was approved for carry as you could furnish your own weapon. Carried it for awhile but the ammo was so expensive I traded it off for an L frame .357 as the only practice ammo the dept would supply were the cheapest .38 wadcutters they could find. Wish I still had that .41.

There was a time, not too long ago, when I could really enjoy a nice cigar with a glass of 20 year old tawny port. A nice, super premium cigar from Jorge Padron, Arturo Fuente, or something from the ISOM (Island South of Miami), and a real tawny port, from Portugal, like Ramos Pinto or Kopke. Middle-to-Old age and stupid medications preclude the consumption of alcohol now, but I still remember...
