Shopping Help Please!

My mother gave me a gift certificate to the Red Dress Shoppe for X-mas, and now I can't decide what to buy. I've decided to stay away from the dresses, the ones that I like are more formal and wouldn't get much use right now. I am now looking in the separates section and need help pairing a couple of items up right so they stay with in my $100 budget and look good.

This is the first top I am concidering- I love the color and they style, but am not so crazy about the skulls. They just don't seem to have the "image" I am trying to present.

I love the sparrows on this black sweater, am OK with a dark top, but would prefer a lighter color. Plus it's not on sale.

Of course they have a cute ivory colored sweater too, but it has guns on the front, not gonna happen!

Here are the skirts I like:

I love the style of these, but need help pairing which skirt with which cardigan. I like the greenish skirt better, but it would look silly with a dark top I think, the dark skirt is OK and would go with more things, but it's a little "been there, done that".

I'm sorry to make a thread about something a silly as "please pick my clothes out for me", but I am one of those people who second gueses my choices all the time, and my boyfriend is no help!

Nothing wrong with a tan skirt and black top! In fact any combo of the things here would be fine. I think I would get all four, personally.

I would too if I had the money! The lighter skirt isn't tan, it's more of an olive green.

given that there are points in disfavor of both tops, i would suggest purchasing both skirts. as you say, the darker skirt would be more versatile, and there seems to be no real objection to it. at a later time, you may find a perfect match for the skirts elsewhere. in this way, you can have the olive skirt you admire, but begin wearing the style immediately in the black, as you find the right top for the former.

i know very little about skirts; is it silly to purchase the same style in multiple colors?

Just to let you know, I have that sparrow sweater, and its absolutly adorable. The only thing about it, is I noticed that it has come apart quite quickly, a result of being poorly made, I assume. Its not unraveling while I wear it, but i've noticed a hole here and there, and then the trim coming off the sleeves a bit. I've talked to a few of my friends who have these sweaters, and they have noticed this as well. Not that you shouldn't still get it, because it is rather cute, I just thought I should give you the heads up!

Do you put it in the dryer, or hang dry it? I don't mind hand washing/hang drying/dry cleaning if I really like an item. I do this with a bunch of clothes becuase I have long arms and legs, and usually a little bit of shrinkage ruins a garment for me. I was really mad when I bought a CUTE top from Forever 21 which said hand was hang dry and I did, and it STILL shrunk! Can you dry clean clothes even though the label doesn't say to?

I put my vote in to purchase both skirts - they have a very nice cut which is flattering to almost any figure, and are basic enough yet different enough to be great additions to your wardrobe. Cardigans are not that hard to find. great skirts are more difficult.

As to whether it's redundant, it was not at all uncommon for women in the Golden Era to have several different colors of the same garment. Either because there was a bargain to be had on purchasing several (or they just plain had the money), or if they sewed, the pattern was used multiple times. And even today, smart, stylish women who can afford it often buy multiples of a well cut garment, shoes or classic handbag (speaking from years of retail and personal shopper experience). You just can't go wrong.

Later, if you get tired of them both being the same, you can add some trimming or change the cut slightly to get more wear from them and save boredom at the same time!

I always would hang dry it, or dry clean it, and it still managed to come apart (very dissapointing). And yes, you can dry clean anything at all, even if it doesn't say so. My uncle dry cleans all of his dark denims to keep them dark! And last time I checked, jeans don't have a "dry clean only" label! If I had the funds, I would get all of my clothes dry cleaned, just to be sure they don't shrink or fade.
