Shoe Shine

I don't know if this has been posted here but this is my easy way of shining boots and shoes. I'm retired Navy so you learn all the secrets to shining. Some military buy Corfam shoes for inspection but that's cheating.
Step #1 Rub your shoes down with Kiwi Polish.
Step #2 Let set for a few minutes.
Step #3 Heat good with a hot hair dryer or heat gun over polish.
Step #4 Rub your shoes down good with a cotton cloth.
That's it, they will look like a mirror with very little elbow grease.

I still find a good buffing gives me better results. I also find it personally satisfying and part of the ritual. I will agree though that your heat method cuts down on the time involved.

I concur with the ritual aspect to shining my footwear. It is a form of therapy for me.

I got a small scuff on one of my new Alden boots yesterday. It's deeply annoying. The leather isn't scratched, but the dye was completely removed. Shoe polish doesn't cover it. Do I need to buy shoe dye to restore this or is there some other technique?

If you are lucky enough to find a shoe cobbler, take the offending boot along, the cobbler will have a buffing wheel, a high speed, electric wheel, the scuff will be gone in seconds. It occurred to me whilst writing this, that you might be able to achieve a similar result if you have an electric drill with a buffing attachment.

I took a pair of brown boots that had white scuff marks on them and cleaned them with alcohol, applied liquid shoe polish over entire bottom, and shined them with brown kiwi. Shine like a mirror now with no scuffs.

I have Lincoln brand edge dressing that I use to keep my heels and sole edges stained. I have used it to good effect on scuffs like yours. I think the edge dressing is either polish with heavy pigment or dye with light pigment....either way it works and the edge dressing is a good thing to have in your shoe kit.

Thanks. I have a first-rate shoe repairman in town. He's done lots of re-soling and re-heeling for me. I'll look in on him next week.

Thanks. It's really a small scuff. I'll try the edge dressing suggestion and if that doesn't work. I'll take it to the shoe repairman.

When I was in the 101st Airborne I would spit shine polish my Corcoran jump boots then apply
Johnson's Floor Wax to the leather. A good soldier adjusts, adapts, and makes the PX terrain work to advantage.

I'd use an ice cube wrapped inside the cloth. You have to have the right soft cloth. But you could get a hell of a shine off that method. But you still needed elbow grease.
