It’s crazy how high this jacket is going for. It’s a nice style and high quality, but I would never spend close to $700 for a used canvas jacket when I can get a really nice leather one for the same price. I own some ship John products and feel that they are very good quality, but I think that hipsters are overpaying for a brand name and exclusivity.

Oh dear God, this went for more than it costs brand new! Wait time or no, this is downright ridiculous! It's an okay looking canvas jacket but... It's literally Carhartt grade product! I mean no disrespect, but have you actually handled one of these before? I have, and it's far superior to any Carhartt I've ever owned, much nicer than LC King / Pointer. The material is far thicker, and the build quality is excellent. The price is on the high side for American made chore coats, but there are some companies that charge even more. It's not for everyone, but this is a top quality item, easily on par with Iron Heart. On top of that, the guys that run the shop are some of the nicest, most generous, down to earth people you could meet. They've done a lot for the community here in Oregon recently, and I consider them to be a company worth supporting.

I won't argue value or bang for buck - everyone's opinion is different, and I was even of the same mind at first (I can buy leather for that price). That being said, I will be ordering one when I can, and while the price is high, the jacket is as good as the hype suggests. To each his own.

I mean no disrespect, but have you actually handled one of these before? I have, and it's far superior to any Carhartt I've ever owned, much nicer than LC King / Pointer. The material is far thicker, and the build quality is excellent. The price is on the high side for American made chore coats, but there are some companies that charge even more. It's not for everyone, but this is a top quality item, easily on par with Iron Heart. On top of that, the guys that run the shop are some of the nicest, most generous, down to earth people you could meet. They've done a lot for the community here in Oregon recently, and I consider them to be a company worth supporting.

I love those guys, wearing my guthrie jeans to death and the denim wills is the best denim jacket ever made for my money. I have no problem ever with what they charge,it's just a but crazy the secondary value. It's like what you see with secondary bourbon, not usually clothing.

I agree, no argument there. I really thought you'd be lucky to get $400 tops, more likely $350. I suppose it's like anything else that's in high demand / low supply, but I was surprised you got more than the price of a brand new one as well. But, as Monitor said, good for you, and congratulations on a great result!

Yeah, you're right. No, I haven't handled one so I am talking out of my ass but... The fact that someone paid more than what the new one'd cost them irks me. That's all.

I suppose the same could be said for Iron Heart and why'd anyone be willing to pay $450 for their Type 3 when you can get the Levi's original for half as much. No amount of explaining why IH's version is worth it would justify it.

Think with this jacket is... I'm sure it's a high quality piece but I just don't feel it's very spectacular looking. I mean, kinda like a straightforward choir coat, the 70's kind you can find all over eBay for much less. Not particularly fancy on details, just the most basic features, etc. That's why I'm comparing it to Carhartt. To me personally it just doesn't scream that it's freaking premium piece. If you didn't know what it is, not sure you'd bother even trying to find out. Just don't see why I'd want to pay more money than what it costs new but yeah, to each their own.

I was super impressed with this jacket right away - the super thick fabric (literally twice what a Carhartt would be at 24 oz) and build quality were like nothing I'd ever handled. However, at the time I walked away without making a deposit - I just couldn't wrap my head around the leather jacket level price, in spite of the quality. A few months later after some thought I decided I'd get one, and the orders were closed.

I guess for me it comes down to the fact that I'm picky about fit, and I am impressed by quality and heavy weight materials. I'll get one, but I really like this style, and I've had plenty of time to think it over.

I’m all about paying premium for higher quality products, but I stop at the point of diminishing returns. That’s why I’ll never spend $2500 for a leather jacket when I can get one 95% as good for half the price.

Ship John has some good art hlywd collabs on his website with some ridiculous prices. $700 for a belt!

Don't get me wrong & not gonna lie, I'd love to own this jacket. I guess it's best I just jump aboard for the next pre-order round provided that's even possible at this point, seeing the interest these guys are getting. I wonder if it's all due to the extremely well done low-key advertising and IG stories? I mean, I'm not sure I'd look twice at their merch if it wasn't for their cool Insta and that Americana thing they're doing. Even listened to a couple of songs on Youtube...

I think they have a cool story behind the merch, and the 24-oz waxed canvas is certainly impressive. I have a 13-oz waxed canvas jacket and cannot even imagine 24-oz. That is beyond LW territory. Thing is, they are bound to get stiff as board in winter. Regarding pricing, once I discovered that Papa Nui Caps sells freaking baseball hats for 120 US apiece, nothing surprises me. Good for Ship John - and the guy is originally from Jersey, although Oregon now claims him...

Wow, what started as a broken hearted soul with big shoulders, then came a size up Wills purchase last week and yesterdays auction. I have been very lucky finding two of these, used, in the past 6 months off ebay.
So, to dovetail with Jimmer, these jackets are very special, the feel, fit, the local backstory; these really turn into 'best friends.' I am always more akin to something I can watch being built, chat with the builders, and know, they, just like me, love the best. I am blown away about the wait times for a new one of these coats, heck the person that I bought the one that just sold from waited 12 months - only to find it was too tight across the shoulders.
You cant really talk about an item until you feel it and wear it, so, I recommend that you folks do, then order one, and love the heck out of it, they are worth every penny.
