Ok ladies, I need some experienced advise here. While at the park today my darling 14 y.o. got hit a few times in the face. {I'm not even gonna go into the whole why the heck didn't you really fight back, thing I went into with her tonight. I've told her, you can not start fights, but if some one hits you hit them back!! She has quite a freaking arm on her!!} She was more interested in trying to find out why the girl was mad at her and trying to fight her, some one she just met today.....
Oy, kids today, I tell ya!!!
I've never had a black eye, so I have no idea how long they last. So my first question is, how long do they generally last? 2) Is there anything to help speed healing? I made her an ice pack but I'm sure as soon as she went in her room, she took it off, thats how kids are.

Ok I'll admit that I've had a couple of black eyes in my day. LOL. I actually gave myself one a couple of years ago when I leaned over the side of the bed to reach for something, not paying attention, and smacked my face on the corner of our nightstand. Ouch!

They usually last about a week, and there really isn't anything you can do except cover it up with cosmetics. Cold compresses will keep the swelling to a minimum, but otherwise you really just have to wait on the bruise to fade away.

ok, phew, so it sounds like it will be gone by the 16th, that is what I was worried about. It actually didnt get too bad sinced we iced it right away, and she jokes about it already.
Ouch, about giving yourself one.

The steak works for the same reason a cold compress works.

I got a black eye a few months ago, and the blue/purple color faded after three or four days. It was yellow and still a little tender a few days after that, but it wasn't noticable.
