Shave Minimizing Lotions

I'm a huge fan. I don't know if they really minimize the amount you have to shave, but it helps me with ingrown hairs. (eww!) I have sensitive skin, and I could never avoid the nasty things before. I have read that the special lotions are *not* proven to be more effective than regular use of any other lotion. I never used any lotion regularly, so I can't compare, but I do know that shave minimizing lotions help soften my hair (I think that's all they claim -- not that it'll grow more slowly.)

BTW, I've used both Jergens and Aveeno. I think Jergens is cheaper, but it made me itch! (started about a year after I started using it.) So I switched to Aveeno, which is easier to find in stores around me anyway, and no problems.

I had a friend who worked for Avon, so she got me a free bottle of their mark. brand hair-minimizing lotion... its terrible stuff-- I used it for the recommended 4-5 weeks, and not only did it not affect the appearance/feel of the hair, it was just a bad lotion to begin with. It was greasy, didn't absorb well, and left an odd residue on my skin that seemed to scrape off gradually:( At least I didn't pay for it!

Thanks for that link JBD... I think I'll try the St. Ives brand, since it came so highly recommended on that page. Here's hoping!

Well, DO let us know because I shave my entire legs and entire arms twice a day!!! My hair grows at an alarming rate and, as a brunette, I am way too well-endowed with hair!!! (Darwin's missing link comes to mind....!)

I used to use the Jergens brand. I didn't see a difference in the thickness of hair on my legs. I use Aveeno now. While I'm still unsure about its effectiveness in minimizing hair, I have seen a positive difference in my skin tone and texture.

Ditto to what LindyBaby said. I used the Jergens for a whole winter and didn't really see much of a difference, but there may have been a small one.

And I just found an unused bottle of it in the back of my cabinet, so I'm going to give it another try. Afterall, it's still moisturizer.

Yep....and evidently I have thought of it -twice-....since there were two bottles of it in my cabinet....

The benefit that I've found is that now I can shave MORE(!) instead of less! I used to have to wait 3-4 days between shaves for my skin to recover, but now I can shave every other day no problem. And I do think the hair is softer, so it's less prickly that day in between, even if it's just as visible. I mostly recommend it for softening coarse hair if you have sensitive skin problems.

And like everyone else agrees, at least now I'm using a moisturizer!

Wow, twice a day? I'd be razor-burned as heck-- careful with your skin honey!

I don't really know why it doesn't bother my skin--been doing this routine for about 15 years now. However, I am a lot older and I think after time the hair follicles begin to surrender! When I was young, the hair was very coarse but now it is softer and there's a tad less of it than there used to be. I can shave my legs and they are like glass just before bed, and by the time the morning arrives, they are prickly! YUCK!! The hair on my head grows even faster--very hard to keep up with.
