Shadow of a Doubt 1943 Stratoliner screenshots

These screenshots are from the 1943 film Shadow of a Doubt.

They show a Stetson Stratoliner [I believe] with the DC-3 style airplane pin that I have always thought went on these hats.
When I watch the film all the way I will see if this hat shows up again!. But I have to say that what I have watched so far is full of great looking hats!
It was neat to finally see a Stratoliner in a film, I have seen many thin ribbons, but they could have been Open Roads/Stratoliner or any of the other fine thin ribbon clones of the time. This is the only time I have seen a pin on a fedora.

I love that movie - one of my favorite Hitchcocks. Set in Santa Rosa, which inspired the Coens to set The Man Who Wasn't There there also.

Great hat. We often assume these hats are a slightly more "casual" hat, but here we see it worn with a three peice suit.

PS - I must figure how to do those screen shots. They are great and really liven up a thread.

Thanks RBH.

And you call yourself a thin ribbon lover... :D lol

How those dudes passed for National Geographic reporters in the first place is beyond me!

Real contrast in suits between the two guys.

I much prefer the thin ribbon hat. Much nicer all round.

I am with you..
I like the overall look of the Stratoliner, it seems to have more crown and brim than the other hat.
Or it may be the thinner ribbon just gives the appearence of that.

Not only a sweet hat and bash, but an awesome belted-back jacket as well!
You are so right Thunder... I really like the crease and the jacket looks great in the shot from behind.!!!

God in a basket, look at that suit!!! Amazing.

The evidence mounts … I said back in the discussion previously that i'd be very happy to be proved wrong about the pins. It seems that Stetson was indeed ridiculous enough to put a Stratoliner on the liner/sweatband, a Stratoliner on the box, and a Stratoliner in every ad … and then a DC3 on the ribbon. [huh] Stetson, it seems, was almost as ludicrous an excuse for a company as it is today. This is a very sad day for me, as i thought Stetson back in the day had more attention to detail than this.

Ridiculous.
