I recently purchased a Selentino Sterling. So far, I’m liking it, but I’m curious if anyone else has had dealings with this hat? I’m falling for the raw edge and it’s the first one I’ve been able to put hands on.
I’ve owned ay least six of them. There was a guy in So. Cal who came up with a storage unit full of them and I grabbed any the struck my fancy. They were also, I believe, once liquidated by the Burlington Coat Factory at very low prices.
The felts are not horrible being modern Tonak rabbit, but they weren’t great either. All mine had a spongy feel and were very low density. They came in some wild colors too! I’m pretty sure that I sold the last of mine a few months ago. For my tastes, the brims are a bit stingy and the crowns are too low and have too much taper. They are a hat worth about what they were selling for. There is nothing wrong with them and if you like them then keep wearing them. Despite the price, I just couldn’t justify keeping mine as I needed the space and they rarely got any wear.
If you look in our classifieds from last autumn you’ll see me listing them NIB for about $40. They were priced competitively with wool hats and they were 100% fur felt.
