Score of vintage sports shirts and two awesome Hawaiians!

A quick jaunt over to the thrift store yesterday yielded a nice collection of sports shirts including these two beat-up Towncraft shirts:

This 50's flannel shirt from Montgomery Wards:

This awesome green and PURPLE "Sportsman" gab shirt! Unfortunately it's a vintage size 's' so it looks like it will be off to ebay.

Not only that, but I scored two vintage Hawaiian shirts! Can some one help date these? 40s? 50s? 60s? I want to say the burgundy one is 40s (the label reads "Surf 'n Sand made in Honolulu Hawaii") and the other one is 50s but I have no idea.

Although the gods of vintage may be generous, they are also cruel; while the burgundy shirt is in perfect condition save a repairable split at the seam of the left shoulder, it is also one size too small for me. The other shirt fits great but their is visible fraying along the collar tips and elsewhere.

I seem to recall that there is a matching dress to that print, too. Quick-go back and peruse the ladies section!

Very nice! I would put the burgundy one on display, since it is too small. It is like a painting! As for the one with the fraying collar etc, when I was a full-time tailor this was a common job for me. I'd simply take apart the collar and resew the tips or whatever a little smaller, encasing the frays. Perhaps your tailor could do this for you for a reasonable price. I have a Towncraft somewhere...

I think that if you were to sell that shirt, you could make a pretty penny, depending on the market. Seems as of late the Hawaiian shirt market hasn't been doing as good as usual.

Sweet score. The purple one seems 40s to me. I would sell and buy something for yourself. I often tend to control my buying by only buying with money I made from picking and selling.

In certain markets, as you may know, small is good. anything the Japanese like will bring more money than large.

As for the second shirt, it may be older but the way the collar is sewn suggests seventies or eighties or newer. Feel the rayon, and look at hte buttons. It may be that someone tried to repair the collar. But the cheaper sweing of the collar from the outside is a dead give away.

Reet is correct-postwar 40's it is.

I had a hawaiian dress and matching shirt before. It was early 50s by Pali. Sold the set for a nice amount. I was kind of sad to see them go!

Thanks for all the quick and positive feedback everybody (oh geez, now I'm speaking 'ebay-ease')! Honestly I think that the shirt with the wild pattern is a home made shirt put together using a vintage pattern. It does'nt look like it ever had a tag, and while the fit feel vintage (short and wide) as reetpleat pointed out, there are some details that point to otherwise. All and all, another shirt I can dance in and not feel too bad about getting sweaty!

The purple Bombax shirt may be anywhere from the late 40s to into the 1950s, Sun n' Surf was an early label started by Alfred Shaheen, for screen printing and aloha shirt production.
