Science: The Mystery of Consciousness

This seems to be a hot topic these days. There is quite a lot of good information coming from Columbia University’s Center for the Study of Science and Religion

http://www.columbia.edu/cu/cssr/

http://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/pollack1/English

And MIT’s McGovern Institute for Brain Research

http://web.mit.edu/mcgovern/index.html

There are also several organizations looking at consciousness from a more social/anthropological or religious/esoteric point of view. One notable organization is the Mind and Life Institute that focuses on Buddhism and modern science

http://www.mindandlife.org/

All quite interesting. Thank you for the tread. I hope to hear from our other members on the subject.

That's a good read.

If science could disprove the existence of the human soul, it would perhaps be a bigger blow to humanity than a visit from extraterrestrials. After all, we have been conditioned by many years of science fiction to accept the possibility of extraterrestrial life, but very few people have been preparing us for the possibility of losing our only shot at immortality.

Shows the brain is still a largely unknown, huh? For me its boils down to the fact that an animal knows things but he doesn't know he knows them as humans do.[huh]
