Schott x Shinki Jacket

The seam would benefit from a single point western yoke across the shoulders for balance. I do like the design though. Not too many M/C bits, standard cuff...I think it’s pretty cool. A more aggressive collar wouldn’t hurt either but I have a thing for broader more pointed collars.

Yeah, I'd find the centre seam a lot more aesthetically pleasing of topped off with a nice yoke. It'll definitely sell out , even if only for the fact that it's two big brands that both have a following, and with a market as big as Schott's surely they must have fifty people will want one.... The design isn't bad, though for me it's longer in the body than I care for in a jacket like that. I'm indifferent to Shinki, so that doesn't have an especial pull for me. Still, it's interesting to see such a mass-market brand dabbling in this sort of limited edition and niche branding.

It's the temper which sets it's apart from other horsehide. And the depth of color, and the smell. All qualities which can't be captured in a picture. It also drapes better.
Smell is nothing to me personally. Unless of course it smells bad haha. But I don’t really care if my jacket has smell or not. But I said to be fair I’ve never handled it and I could be wrong. I hope I am, I hope it’s that good.

Unfortunately it has the classic Schott sizing:
The M has perfect 20" bottom hem but only 21.5" chest, the L has an ok 23" chest but a huge 21.5" bottom hem...

Now that is a problem. I don’t get how they screw this part up often enough. Some of their models are perfect for a really cool rock n roll look...others not so much.

I've had several Schott jackets over the years. There seems to be some Schott infatuation here with historic favoritism ....but I just don't put them in the same category as the top tier leather jackets of the last few decades. Wonky stitching, loose liner thread, sometimes nice leather ( such as a Shinki run ) but often not so much, plus mainly off the rack sizing is my evaluation. They have gotten better with their latest productions but still a notch under par from my perspective.

I am probably wrong because I’ve never seen Shinki in person. To be fair I should probably have to handle the stuff. With that admission out of the way I don’t get the hype. No picture I’ve ever seen of any jacket has made me think it’s any better or cooler than any other top tier leather.
I think you will be impressed if you ever get a chance to check it out in person. I am not going to say that it’s better than all other leathers but I certainly prefer it to the. Vicenza and CXL jackets I own. I wish I could express myself more eloquently right now but it was a long day at work and I am at a loss for words. Maybe this picture will do the trick:

I've had several Schott jackets over the years. I could not agree more. Every Schott jacket I have handled and tried on has been underwhelming in terms of quality. This is why I do not own any.

For me, the fact that Schott offers this at 1k4 (which is already high) just shows how crazy the premium top-tier brands are charging.

The aroma goes away (sadly), but for the first year your whole closet smells like heaven!

Almost all sizes sold out. I guess there's people buying jackets out there who aren't on these forums ;)

Think I said it before, I own several Schotts. I actually like the builds. C'mon at least they put on an appropriate sized zipper :) and will replace the hardware if it ever breaks. Their 100 series leather, that stuff is fantastic. Their designs, some good, some bad, some ok. Their sizing, not fashion friendly at all. Look at the model pics on all their styles. Probably won't buy another again because going to tailor is expensive and risky and there's just other options. But in reality, you can buy a lot of their popular styles for 15-25% if you shop around and another couple hundred on a tailor still makes it more affordable than the next tier of jackets.

I do love my Aeros, but jeez, can they stop using children clothing sized zippers.

I like these, except for the center seam on the back, just personal preferance. It's some really nice leather there, if nearly all of them have sold out in less then 24 hours, these will be collector's pieces.

Horween makes a million different leathers and as does shinki or CF Stead so on and so on. It’s just different. But based solely on pictures nothing about it makes me get the hype. Maybe I’ll handle it in the future and change my mind, but to me it’s just another high end leather.

Shinki is a buzzword right now. I have many jackets made of it but that is just how it worked out and not by any choice really. The leather on my Freewheelers or Rainbow Country jackets isn't really nicer or better than the leather on my Langlitz, Schott or Thedi jackets I used to own. Its all just dead horse skin and whatever tannery it comes from makes no difference to me or influences my purchase.

Well, I am clearly not a very active member of this forum. But I sneak around every once in a while and take a peek. And I knew as soon as I saw the email from Schott that this jacket would get a little discussion.

I like it. I like it enough that I bought one. Should be here sometime next week.

For some perspective I have four other jackets currently. I have a MTO Vanson Chopper (with brass hardware, sleeve pocket, contrast stitching and different liner), Vanson CHP in Horween CXL horsehide, a Schott x Black Stallion D pocket, and a Schott P663 Burgundy Sunset Delivery Jacket.

All nice jackets but nothing quite this nice I think. I’m pretty excited about this jacket if it fits well

Personally, I don’t understand the scrutiny scale on which Schott is always found wanting by some fellow forum members, especially that of stitching. I can understand people don’t appreciate the value proposition of Schott’s regular leather offerings(non horween/shinki) basis their current retail prices or complaining about Schott’s off the rack pricing vs Aero’s ‘custom’ offerings at similar price levels. Understandable and agreed

But taking a microscope and evaluating each and every stitch is beyond me. I don’t own any vintage made in US/Europe jackets which all of us admire and covet over here at FTL, but not sure which of those old Sears were stitched impeccably, or for that matter, even used precisely sorted leather panels. I believe they were mostly about great leather choice, fit and pattern (& pricing or rather value)
Which this particular Schott certainly takes care of. Or for that matter, all their Horween collabs do

but to each his own. I find the pricing to be a bit prohibitive, but as some other pointed, given the shinki pricing of other retailers, this looks to be a good enough value

I suspect these same members scrutinise all jackets the same way, we all have different expecations, and even these change the more time we spend here lol

It might not be obvious or apparent to you, but to me or to @dudewuttheheck this is as obvious as a punch in the face...
Schott does the bare minimum to create a jacket that holds together, Field Leathers (and Freewheelers, RMC and many others) tries to make it as pretty and accurately as possible.
This is a difference in craftsmanship i am happy to pay more for.

Personally i don't get the Shinki obsession, yes Shinki produces nice leather, they also produce average one.
IMO the the best thing about Shinki is that most makers who use it will try very hard to make the most of it and produce great jackets.
To me seeing "Shinki leather" means "it will most likely be super well made by an OCD maker", not necessarilly "the leather will be amazing".

I have two crap jackets made from Shinki (my two Diamond Clothing) and the fact that they are Shinki doesn't help their case at all...

For me, yes I will appreciate the perfect rectangle & the impeccable stitching, especially at $1k+, but there a few important factors such as maturity of the pattern and fit in which I believe legacy plays a tangible role. That is why I prefer Aero's & Schott's patterns over someone say Field leathers or even SB. I feel the good old patterns(in my price bracket) have been perfected by Aero & Schott, & that is much more important to me than a stitch by stitch evaluation. Ofcourse stitching cannot be outright 3/10, I will send the jacket back, as I believe some forum members have with Aero, once in while

RMC & other Japanese makers besides Himel Bros operate in a completely different price band, & expectations will surely be on another level if one is paying double or sometimes triple the cost of an Aero or Schott

Not trying to be a douche, but IMO Aero and Schott are two of the worst brands on the market as far as "pattern and fit", they both have had problems that have been visible for years and neither has done anythign to make it better.
I would put them on the same level stitching wise.
