Anyone used this? It is a vintage product, and says it contains conditioner and setting lotion.

I'm looking for a temporary "pick me up" for my red hair - I want it to be really RED, but still a natural shade. I was thinking of trying this, but am concerned if it will rub off if I'm wearing it underneath a hat all evening, or potentially any sweating. I don't really care if it lasts 1 shampoo or 30, but I don't want something that's going to damage my hair or lift color... or leave red dye all over a vintage hat.

Reviews? Or another suggestion to achieve the result I'm looking for?

I'd use it with caution. It will rub off. If you are concerned about it getting on your hat, and are going to wear the hat continually, use it just on the areas not covered by the hat, then seal it with gel or hairspray.

I used it for a while when growing out my black hair dye to its true dark brown, to make it less abrupt a border. I didn't have any problems with it rubbing or running, unless I got really sweaty. It does wash right out which is nice. Doesn't give a lot of coverage though, so not too good for covering gray.

I've used it in the past. Once I wanted to go red for my Halloween costume. I was Ann Margret. I expected it to stain my blonde hair, which I was alright with. However, I put it in and rinsed it out before bed that same day and it came out completely! I was extra happy about that.

I've also used the Minx color to help with the tone of my blonde hair. I was using too much of it (along with violet shampoo) and it turned my hair greyish. Once the bottle ran out I stopped using it. Now that I think about it, I should start using it again. This time more sparingly!

With all that said... When it comes to the red, I am sure it will help spruce up your color, but I am not sure how much it will stay as I really didn't allow it to "set". I am sure that if I didn't wash it out the same night it would have stained my hair somewhat. I don't remember having any problem with it running or smudging on things, but I used the red 3 or 4 years ago.

I used it a lot while I was in beauty school. It says it has conditioner and setting lotion in it, but if your hair is colored, it's not strong enough to be your only conditioner. The setting lotion isn't really much, either. If you're looking to keep your red bright, I'd recommend a color depositing conditioner. Goldwell, Paul Mitchel and Aveda all make conditioners that have a little bit of color pigments in them and are really good for damaged hair. I always found Fanciful to be messy and an extra step if you want to use it on a regular basis.

I use it occasionally, when my blonde is looking brassy, to even out the tone. It does seem to have mild setting lotion in. I say give it a go!

Thanks, ladies!

My hair is red, I just want something to brighten it up a notch or two. I'm not concerned about staining or grey coverage. However, I'm going to be wearing a fairly fitted vintage hat, and doing a lot of dancing in an open metal hangar... so I am concerned about sweating & rub off. I think for this particular event, I'll skip it. I may try something like Natural Instincts or another of the "28 washes" type colors.

Kamikat - Thanks for the info! I use conditioner every single time I shampoo, so I'd definitely use it and then the rinse. Good info on the setting lotion portion, though. Sounds like might need to also use Lottabody in addition. I've used the Aveda red conditioner many times, and it is a nice one.
