News: Century-old Rollers celebrate with 2,000-mile run
30 May 07 15:37
The world's biggest ever gathering of Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts took place last weekend as the prelude to a 2,000-mile tour.
More than 60 Silver Ghosts, built between 1907 and 1926, were assembled at the Rolls-Royce HQ in Goodwood, West Sussex, before embarking on a 17-day jaunt with stopovers in Derbyshire, the Lake District, Inverness, John O'Groats and Dundas Castle in Edinburgh. The tour has been organised by the 20-Ghost Club, which encourages the restoration, maintenance and use of Rolls-Royce cars built before 1945.
The event marks the centenary of a reliability trial that established the reputation of the Silver Ghost as the world's finest car. The 60 cars - which have come from as far afield as Singapore, India and New Zealand - include the actual one that did the 1907 run.
Rolls-Royce chairman and chief executive Ian Robertson said: 'We are delighted to support the 20-Ghost Club on this unique occasion. We are especially pleased and honoured to present these wonderful motor cars together at Goodwood, the new home of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. The Silver Ghost was designed and built with an obsession for quality combined with the highest level of engineering and this remains the foundation of our company today.'
The new Phantom Drophead Coupe and a Silver special edition of the Phantom - only 25 of which will be made - were also at Goodwood.

Also, a related auction - I doubt anyone's going to be dropping their spare $600k on this, so...
