I was always a huge Richard Todd fan. He was in a terrific Disney version of Robin Hood, he played Sir Walter Raleigh, Peter Marshall, the chaplain of the US Senate, and a bunch of other great roles. His career hit a lowpoint with the 1967 stinker, "The Love Ins". But still, he had a great career. As they say, he will be missed.

My signed photo of Richard Todd.

This is one of my treasures. Todd as Guy Gibson in a photo from the orginal 'Dambusters' movie.

He will be missed.

Richard Todd was in the film, "The Longest Day", about the Normandy invasion. Uniquely among cast members in that film, he was actually there on June 6th, 1944.

So sad, such a great actor!!
Still, leaving us at the ripe age of 90, i am sure he had a great life that it will be remembered.

I have been told that in the motion picture he portrayed his commanding officer - that is, he was a lieutenant in the commando [unit] that took control of the bridge. Since Millen portrayed himself as Lovat's piper, I hope what I was told about Mr. Todd is accurate.

The Dam Busters is one of my biggest, most absolutely loved films ever.

...Still...90. That's a damn good age to snuff it.

Also...watching that little video there...

...I think I want to watch "The Longest Day" tonight. Richard Todd was in it. As I recall, the film-producers offered to let him play himself, but Todd chose to play his commanding officer instead, in the historic scene holding the bridge...

Richard Todd portrayed Major John Howard, commanding officer of the glider-bourne troops of the 2nd Ox and Bucs, the unit which secured what is now known as "Pegasus Bridge" and held it until relieved.

On June 6, 1944, Richard Todd was a Lieutenant in the 7th Parachute Battalion and was among those who jumped into Normandy and met up with Howard's men prior to the arrival of the Commandos, who landed by sea.
