Jack A. Weil, the Cowboy’s Dresser, Dies at 107

the first to put snaps on Western shirts (17 on a shirt), and most likely the first to produce bolo ties commercially.

snaps matter, not least to cowboys who are not handy at sewing. They break loose easily if the shirt is caught on a hostile horn. (They also offer a dramatic way to bare one’s chest, but that might be another story.)

In announcing the death, his grandson, Steve Weil, Rockmount’s president, said Mr. Weil was to Western shirts what Henry Ford was to cars, and, indeed, the global spread of cowboy style owes much to him.

A true American original.

I have had the pleasure of dealing with the Rockmount family on several occasions. We have created stunning original western snap shirts. The shirts and the family are wonderful.
I had the gift of speaking to grandpa Weil several times. He amazed me with his retention of our account and details of our orders.
A sad day. Yet a wonderful memory.
Pete.

He was the CEO of Rockmount Western Wear which is a wonderful shop in downtown Denver and the origin of my western shirt and recently purchased cowgirl bandana. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I loved his work.
