I'm curious about how many of you may also live in an older home. Or do you seek out vintage furnishings (as in sofas, chairs, tables, not scarves and cufflinks :)) for the house you live in?
Do you look for larger accessories to make your home feel more vintage? Or is it just the clothes/hats?

I'm extremely fortunate. My house was built around the WWI years. The stuff I love fits into it and looks swellegant. We (wife & two daughters) have picked up some persian carpets for the hardwood floors. None of the furniture is new. I scour fleamarkets for old silverplate and arts & crafts era pottery. There's a victrola in the corner, Maxfield Parrish on the walls. And of course, a hat tree by the door. I'm building a pair of Morris chairs now. It all looks mainly unchanged, though probably from around 1925 - 1930.
Do you find it easier to fit the stuff into a new house? If you do, I know you certainly have better plumbing. ;)

Retro house

I have a 1945 bunglow in Reno Nv. built a small cottgae in back where I now live ( big house is used by elderly mother). I have done the cottge in an art deco feel. Due to the small size have a single vintage metal bed, looking for just the right desk but do have a 1920s book case. Old style retro phone sitting on a late 20's end table. Slowly changing all my clothing over to period corect 1936 to 1941. Having patterns made to do this. Ride a vintage 1964 BMW motorcycle with 1942 Stoye sidecar. So doing my best to live vintage.

What model BMW do you ride? I used to tool around on an R-75, but there's no better looking bike than the 50's and 60's boxers, especially with sidecar hacks. In fact, POST A PICTURE!

My (current) apartment is in an old building from late 19th century (?), and it used to be a store before being converted at some point. My "area" of the store where my apartment is, used to be the main part of the store. My first apartment (in the same bulding) used to be where the butcher shop was. There are pocket doors, now covered, between the two parts of the (then) store.

I pretty much have tried to do what I could within my budget and what resources were available at the time, to create my style for both myself and my living space. Both of these have evolved over time and are nowhere near how they were at the start.

Most of my shopping was done at thrift stores, flea markets, yard sales, other discount stores, give-away stores, and some online shopping.

Since I tend to be rather minimalist compared to some, at this late in the game, I am nearly done. Just a few more clothing items and furniture pieces, then I really cannot think of anything else to get. I never was really the type to buy stuff for the sake of it so, once I am done, I may well work on building up a savings.

My flat is in a block that was opened in 1951. It was built post-war, on the site where the first really big bomb landed on the first night of the Blitz here in London. One of my neighbours, at the age of 99, just moved out after having lived here since it opened. I have a fondness for mid-century modern stuff, and as we gradually make over the flat am trying to style that way. Not really going to town as we hope to move in a couple of years' time. When we get a small house, hopefully a Victorian / Edwardian terrace, it'll probably end up MCM and earlier in terms of furnishing. I hope by then there's an easy way to hide a large flat-screen TV.

My house was built in early 50s and inside I left most things the way it’s been built. Tiled entrance hall and wooden stairs to first floor, cellar and attic, batten floors in living room, bedrooms, office, all room doors still the same...only bathrooms and kitchen have been completely redone, as well as the outside of the whole thing and infrastructure.
Piggy house has been turned to workshop, garden shed...heated by an old coal fired cooking machine.

Cheers
